I'm glad to see that we are all on the same page here. You need a sense of humor to keep smiling after their latest "proposal"

You guys are looking at the negatives. First, the company is already attempting to bypass negotiations indicating that they want (or more likely NEED) a contract prior to summer peak. Lets look at the situation at FedEx now. Lot's of people going to the schoolhouse for training, rumor of another large bid in the fall (more people off the line going to school), widebody acquistions, new China routes, etc. What does all these things lead to? NOT ENOUGH LINE PILOTS...... Here is to the Summer of Fred. I have been one in the past to help the company out on occassion, but for me that stops now. Anyone looking for the "smoking gun" or "flashing sign". You just got it from the company. Enjoy your time off and have a wonderful summer. Hope the surf is good.... Los1, I know how you get. Relax. Breathe in. Breathe out.

I am flat out amazed there was not a front page article in the Commercial Appeal (aka The Fred Post) saying FedEx offers pilots 17% pay raise.

Most of y'all have been here at FDX longer than me, and I just read the ALPA response email. They have some really strong points. To be sure, I have no clue what it was like before the '98 contract nor do I have much knowledge right now about retirement plans, health care, vacation and all that. Hell, I just got my first line in May so I really don't know much about the work rules. That being said....

What do y'all think would be the sentiment right now if Mgmt would have said 6% or 7% or something like that instead of 3%? Think alot of guys would bite? I can't really tell if this end run offer is a good sign or a bad sign for us.

Magnum,

Good questions, but why dont' you save them for an AOC meeting or talk to some of your mentors.

I suggest ALL of us keep our "what would it take" discussions off public forums. Good business sense says there are two things you say in public:

"My union speaks for me...."

and...

"I need to buy a hat..."

Not trying to squash anyone, but management talks, dickers, and conducts strategy in PRIVATE. Taking our private thoughts and sharing them on the internet (vice with a block rep or other rep) only allows a very lopsided position for us. I'm not paranoid, but management will be listening and watching what we say. Let's make sure what we say in public helps our cause in private.

Off soapbox. Resume the party...

Good points Albie. And I agree that we should keep it shut. However, I will stick by the "jack a$$e$ for the lame attempt to circumvent negotiations" comment.

The rest of my ranting from here on out will be in private to my wife. She likes that kind of stuff.

Could have used that sweet sweet "signing bonus" though. http://www.cervelo.com/bikes/2005%20images/2005-P3Carbon-full.jpg

Buy a hat--

My Union speaks for me!!!! and...

Well if the company is checking this board then let it be know that I won't take anything less than a 25% pay increase! And as far as that sweet signing bonus goes...ONE MORE DAY OF RETRO PAY!!!

Let's see,

First, what is the rate of inflation? Approx. 2-3% minimum per year.

When was our last pay raise? Approx. 2 years ago.

Doesn't that mean that we are already approx. 6% behind?

Their offer of 3% per year and no changes to the current agreement is obviously laughable - why would anyone accept 5 more years of 2003 wages?

Of course, this falls in line with Negotiating 101 - Throw out an incredicbly low offer and, lo and behold, all subsequent offers will look great (Even if they are still cost negative or neutral to our current agreement.)

Don't let this memo bother you - just sit back with a copy of "Confessions of a Union Buster" and you'll be up to speed in no time!

My Union Speaks For Me!!

Isn't it some kind of unwritten rule that every FedEx pilot based in Memphis has to drive and/or own at least a Corvette or a Harley Davidson anyway?

Nah, I can't playa hate. I'm jealous I wish I could have an old school Electra Glide so bad. Maybe when Uncle Sam decides what to do about the sandbox and I get out of mother blue then get some jet time, maybe I can get into FedEx and get me one.

Way to lower the bar! ;)

30% pay raise effective 31 May 2004, 30% pay raise every year thereafter for 3-year life of Contract.

As far as bonus money... Hourly rate * 200 EVERY year on anniversary of contract. ($150/hr hourly rate would get $20,000 bonus)

PLUS retro pay...

:)

I've got a math problem for all the FedEx folks. Take the signing bonus which would apply to your years of service, then divide by 1000 (the number of hours of pay per year - give or take), and then divide by the number of years 3,4 or 5. Then see how much extra pay you are actually getting with that signing bonus per hour. Don't forget that Uncle Sam will take a pretty good size chunk of it. Suddenly it doesn't seem so big!

Suddenly? I was thinking "instantly"! I mean, even before I read that far. When they don't even want to talk about work rules, how serious can you take their "offer"? This was good for a laugh, and that's about it.

I knew it wouldn't take long for Fred to take this to the media.

FedEx Dangles Bonus

Now comes the attack of the neighbors! :)

I haven't even made it to the bottom quarter!

I wonder where they get those numbers from.

Then again, maybe I don't.
