With 28% of the countries oil production shut down with Katrina ...the local gas stations here are telling us the cost will jump from the current $2.53 to over $3.00 gallon by this wednesday....

I was told gas in Cali went to $3.96 !!! tonight.....

This could cause a major resession in the country, what the heck are we going to do in this business.....do you see airlines just shutting down....

Man o man....

Fear not, rvsm, the price is going up this week because of... ta-da!!... Labor Day weekend. It'll be back down soon. ;)

big freaking deal? let's just hope that all people in New Orleans will walk away from that b*tch.

...and they will, if they were smart enough to leave that b*tch.

Worrying about the aftermath of the hurricane, and how it will affect all of us in the coming months, is a perfectly valid concern, dear dutchman.

Well, that and how the evil oil companies are profiting from our misery.:D

Labor Day?! You...you're not actually insinuating that the oil companies set their prices higher to take advantage of higher travel? The thought! TC

What, I say, WHAT are you insinuating, sir!? :D

If prices go above average because of bad weather, how come they never go below average for good weather?

Hey, I hope for minimal losses...I was just making a comment on the overall effects that will probably last for some time to come... I got out of town 3 days before they hit my area, and over $15,000 out of pocket in expenses.....I know without any doubt what hurricanes are capable of...

I feel for those in NO that could not afford to get out...God Bless and protect them...

Or if they rise for increased times of travel, why don't they lower for decreased times of travel?

Those are the questions.

I hear ya RVSM :)

be safe.

It takes 10 days for a change in the price of a barrel of oil to reach the pump-prices.

Anything that happens between now and next week is continued price-gouging, panic-buying, speculation etc.

...unless there are actual "supply" problems i/e there's no fuel to put on the truck and no fuel delivered to the stations.

The government must do something! How about a hurricane surcharge?

That's never stopped stations from changing the prices over night with the report of a barrel of crude closing at a higher price. Now, for the price to lower, I would agree, it lowers in a much more controlled manner. It lowers by a few cents every several days...yet I saw a rise of 17 cents in a 24 hr period several weeks ago.

Those are the questions.

But I think they DO. Right after Labor Day, that is.

I used to hear that a lot, thus the return of the man-faced dog LOL

The fat cat gas station owners would never pass up an excuse to raise their prices. I'm sure they really sold all the stuff in the tank from the old shipment before they started gouging us for the new shipment.

I don't know how gas stations are owned or operated in your country, but I think in the US they are individualy owned and operated as franchises.

The gas station owners are making pennies on the gallon, that's why you have to pay two bucks for a soft drink or a candy bar in those places.

If the local owner of a gas station ups the price of gas a nickle because product is becoming scarce, I don't see a problem with that.
