All along I thought SWA was going to buy FRNT. It looks like now they are just going to kill Frontier and pick up the pieces.

Its unfortunate, F9 has a good product, good people. I guess it is just business. F9 is gone in 12 months, my bet.

United is probably the weakest of all the legacy cariers. SWA is probably posturing in the event that UA goes away. Probably better than a 50/50 chance. UA unfortunately may be the sacrificial lamb in consolidation.

That's easy. SWA kills everything in their path. All your route belong to them. They killed AirTran in BWI and MDW, they killed UAL and AA out of Chicago as well, and AA out of Dallas. They killed USAir out of PHL and Horizon out of PDX and CAL out of Houston. All those airlines are long gone, or soon will be, because anywhere SWA is all other liquidate.

Not to mention USAir Metrojet in BWI, Shuttle by United in California, Delta Express in MCO and Continental Lite. Frontier is losing $$ and analyst figures back that up (last revised count over $.75/share loss). Don't know if they can survive with $100+ oil prices, then again, not many LCC's will either. Watch Skybus, JetBlue, AirTran, Allegiant and the sort. Changes ahead. The legacy carriers will probably go thru BK one more time and consolidate or shrink in the domestic market. As far as the RJ crowd, all bets are off with these high oil prices. Hedging is buying SWA several years worth of time to see how all this plays out. Big changes ahead.

It is a matter of time until SW expands until they are just like all the other carriers. When they go international and get AC to suit that routing they will be well on their way. "You are now free to move about the country," with the same costs as all the other carriers.

You mean those fake virtual airlines that never existed in the first place and flew a large ammount of 737-200 gas guzzlers that were going away anyway? So SWA burried those? Did SWA bury Song? Are they killing Ted? Those "airlines" were just a different way to paint some of an airline's fleet and experiment with a quasi selective marketing gimmick. Moot point.

Actually we have more routes out of BWI and MDW than we did before the LUV invasion on our MDW gates. We know we can't throw rocks to piss off the sleeping giant but our management is extremely intelligent when it comes to taking advantage of every opportunity that arises.

Ahhh...now I understand your reasoning. Tequila or vodka?

IronCityboy, never mentioned TED or SONG. Those you are correct. They had to spend their millions somewhere, God forbid give it in wages to employee groups. When SWA went into BWI, all said they were going to get their lunch handed to them. Well, history has noted different. USAir packed up the tent and went elsewhere. PIT has become a ghost town as well. Ever heard of the 'USAir effect', or 'Delta effect' in news articles? I haven't.
By the way, didn't SWA fly those "gas guzzling" 737-200's during that same period?

Three hub carriers in DEN? Don't think it's gonna work. We(F9) better come up with a plan yesterday!
I don't think three hub carriers will be in DEN either.
My guess is SWA thinks it is going to be a UAL and DAL merger. The result will be Hubs in JFK, ATL, SLT and maybe IAD as well. Thus opening up DEN.
