You are right...lot of insecure pilots taking full advantage with this thread! This topic says much more about those posting here than it does about the crew of flight 6243. I have flown with many ex-Mesa pilots at my current gig, and in my experience they are an above average group of aviators, politics aside. I do get a kick out of watching the "Mesa Sucks" crowd laugh at their own jokes though, they don't realize it quit being funny years ago.

I'm glad you're able to determine someone experience level on a normal flight.
But when the sh*t hit's the fan, like the USAir on the Hudson, and Freedum in CVG.....that's when the expierence really shines.

Yet you are on some messageboard making determinations about a crew based on what some guy says he heard? You do a real good job of making my point. What makes you think I am making any kind of determination of what a guy's experience level is based on a normal flight? Lot of assumptions in that statement.....but then that doesn't surprise me.

Oh, I don't know....maybe from another post of yours?

Just a thought. The F.O. was trying to run a checklist and the captain was giving instructions. The F.O. was listening to ATC, the captain, and running an emergency checklist all at the same time and got tongue twisted on the radio in the excitement. I have been there. I had smoke while pulling the gear up coming out of ORD. It is way more exciting than when it happens in the sim. The cockpit lit up like a Christmas tree on our second leg which was the second plane with no APU and after the second set of first flight checks. De-icing with snow and limited visibility.

It was at least 30-45 seconds before I heard Tower yelling "Air Shuttle are you still here?"

And the sun wasn't even up yet. Give the crew a brake and let them tell their side of this before you pass judgment. I have a feeling that this will be an amazing story.

Kudos to the crew for the safe return.

Not sure about the airline that you fly for, but most airlines the flying pilot will take the radios while the NFP runs the checklist.

Again, where does it say anything about my NORMAL (as you put it) experience on a flight with said pilots? Are you saying I didn't take a lightning strike while sharing the flightdeck with an ex-Mesa driver? Are you saying he wasn't calm under pressure and in complete control of the situation at all times? Your statement ASSUMES that this event never happened, when in fact it did. You would not know that because, until now, I have not provided you with that fact. You are making definitive statements on heresay and assumptions.

Does Freedom have a policy as to how far they are required to steer clear of thunderstorms? For example, we are required to not operate within 20 NM of a storm.

My point being, why were they close enough to even get hit by lightening? Especially on departure? Why did they even take off?
