Thats the way its been done at Mesaba since 1944. When you kids have been an airline for that long come talk to me. BTW once you get a chance to fly somewhere other than ATL you will notice that many airlines do not have shirt wings. You probably wear at T Shirt with an airplane on it at the Quality Inn pool so that everywhere you go people know you're a pilot.

NWA never did either. They had the sharpest uniforms in the industry until they were forced to go double breasted with lots of bling.

Plain white shirt at the hotel and people will assume you're there to assist with the luggage on occasion. This profession is still strongly tied to the military and we like our wings.

No, We wear hats and wings because of Jaun Trippe not the military. Our uniform originates from maritime roots. Trippe wanted to his Flying Clippers to be on par with the great ocean liners of the time. Hence why the PIC is a "captain". Maritime captains wear their hats indoors or whenever in eye of the public. Like most airline pilots did once upon a time. The military takes the lid off when indoors.
