Greetings from Retirementville, where every day is Saturday. I'm new to this forum thing but like it and enjoy hearing what people have to say. Some of the tone and content I see is disturbing but I've resisted commenting. But, what the heck, if I weren't doing this, I'd have to finish painting the basement.

One of the nice things about being an airline pilot was that I never felt the need to take shots at fellow birdmen because they worked for a competing carrier. I didn't see them as somehow less qualified, of lesser character or integrity, because they flew more legs, paid for a type rating, or carried less-well-dressed pax.

But, when I see one guy ( from a major, I guess ) call another guy a "crack ho" because he flies for a LCC, that's cosmically over the line. I'm sure you've seen some of these discussions so I won't mention individuals or topics. We can have differences about how companies operate or what unions do, but going for each other's individual throats won't change the big picture one bit. If I trash YOU, your character, or career choices, then what ? Will the big picture change ?

I've even see this filter down to F/A's, agents, rampers, etc. Well, I'm too old to be naive but I can be surprised...and I am. Can't we just kick this stuff around without the personal insults ?

There...I've kicked the hornet's nest...let me have it...I can take it !! I'll endure anything to get out of finishing that basement .

In a nutshell, you have summarily described why I spend very little time at this forum, compared to the past. There is little value to be found here anymore. Just more and more of what you described.

I have to agree with you 100%. Some people on here forget that we are all doing the same thing, and thats doing something thats passionate to us and providing a comfortable life for our families. I actually started to respond to someones smarta$$ reply towards someone else on another thread, but after I finished typing I deleted it and thought why lower myself to their level, we're all adults.

I agree, lets start respecting others opinions more, you will find that it will add more value to the forums.

flx757,

It's still a shiney new toy for me, I guess. If you work on Virginia Ave., I miss you, Man !! ( not really, but you MD guys ARE outstanding )

KCS0780,

Yeah, but "crack ho"...where does something like THAT come from ?

I am in agreement with the above also, I joined this board thinking it was a place for aviation professionals to chat, not where people are flamed for one reason another. We are all (well most I should say) pilots in the same game, and we should not crap on each other because we disagree with a man's/ladies aviation decisions in life. But of coarse this is the internet, where mouths gather courage that would otherwise not be present in reality.

I 85% agree, however, I must agree also with the others; that it is good to hear from someone so well experienced with a will and a way with words. We probably, by your own admission, would not have ever heard from you had it not been for that unfortunate comment. Hope we hear more from you.

Les, I can't find your apology...where is it?

People who don't want to participate or understand differing perspectives can tune out and not access the forum... Don't come to the forum if you are expecting uniformity of opinion or gentlemenly discourse - that is just not realistic...

Can be Damaging....

Just thought I would add one thing, as I agree with all that has been stated here thus far.

I have seen where individuals have crossed the internet reality line and exposed folks names and places of employment. This can be very damaging to careers and does nothing to improve the QOL here or the real world, other than cause "real" heart-ache for someone.

Lets just regress a bit a remember the golden rule our mommies taught us.....and what goes around comes around rule.....

I agree with that. Some lines should not be crossed. Opinion can be given on a public forum, but some things should be avoided.

Great Post!

BAFANGUY,
Very well said and thanks for the wake up call. It seems very easy to get carried away here and forget the reality that we all make very nice money for doing a easy and fun job! I think most of us here have been guilty of going off the deep end from time to time. (Except USNFDX ;) )
Maybe you should auto post this thread every 2 months. Enjoy those golden years!

Les,

I have most defintely done my best NOT to engage in your brand of posting. I'm not 100% perfect, but far from what you accuse me of. But, why would I expect anything different?

Les,

Follow your own advice and use the search function. I'm willing to bet there is a very small percentage of my posts which would qualify as "mudslinging". Can you say the same?

bafanguy,

No. I'm not on Virgina Ave. I'm in the Pacific NW. But, enjoy your new life. I wish I could join you. In the mean time, I'm back to a more productive world. See y'all around.

You can find it and everything else by using the search function. So I guess you are NOT perfect. (That IS a joke),

So as to save you the time to go searching......

I apologize to you for my comment in the other thread.

Les

I did the search and did not find it. But, thanks for your apology here.

WOW...this is great. I knew you were all bright, articulate, pro's and you haven't disappointed me. Les Paul...My Man...this IS real!! and you can hurt people here. The old "sticks and stones" thing is dead wrong; bones will heal...words leave permanent scars. We can expect "gentlemanly discourse" from fellow pro's. Someone said don't come to the forum if you're expecting "uniformity of opinion". Who wants uniformity of opinion ? Nobody expects THAT !! What each of us expects and has earned is "gentlemanly discourse".

I'll be in touch...

He did, He did!!

Les did apologize. When I read it, I thought that he must have forgotten to sign out, or maybe someone else had invaded his body.:D

I agree with the original post. I've found that the best way to deal with all of the name calling is to type like He\\ and then hit delete before you hit send. Or I can just go on to our companys private website and watch them spank each other their. It is amazing how people who don't have the balls to say things in public, have no problem calling names with a keyboard.
