I interviewed at Flexjet today and was offered the CL604. I start training May 31st, and I'm pretty excited about the opportunity.

I've never been on equipment that could fly to Europe without breathing hard, so this will be a big lifestyle adjustment, for both me and the 'fam.

I was wondering if any of you guys (or gals) on the '604 right now could clue me in as to what I'm in for, i.e., number of international trips you fly versus domestic, what it's like on the body clock, etc.

Thanks!

I emailed my resume and cover to the Bombardier web site in mid-May. After that, I think it took about two weeks before I got the call from Karen.

I didn't know a soul on the inside there. I'm still kind of blown away at how painless the whole process was.

Disregard. I meant to say I emailed my stuff to Flexjet in mid-April.

Been a long day.

Congrats brother! Atleast you'll be working some place nice. CL 604! that's nice brother! How technical was the interview?

Hey, bro! What's up? I was gonna PM you to let you know I hadn't dropped off the face of the earth, but you beat me to it.

Overall, the whole interview was extremely laid-back and non-confrontational. I think they were looking for people skills as much as flying skills. Makes sense.

First thing was the sim eval. It was in a Level D LR 31, all raw data. ILS 13L DAL, land, then a V1 cut. Not even a hold. I thought I flew like a guy who hadn't flown in two months (which I haven't), but I must have convinced them I was trainable.

Then I met with CP Rick and Karen from HR. They just wanted to know why I wanted to fly for Flex (actually, Karen did most of that over the phone the week before ... so the face-to-face HR was almost a non-event). Then Rick gave me the skinny on the company and asked me a few questions about my background. Then I took the 30-question ATP written and Karen made the offer. I was kind of blown away, especially when I found out it was for the 604.

Over and done with by 10:30. My kind of day. I start training May 31st.

Yeeeeoooowwwww!!!

Awesome man! Look at it this way, yeah you might be gone for a few days, but you'll make good MULA, you're gonna get typed in the 604 (that has to be good), Flex is a pretty good company and above all you'll be able to provide for your family (that's what it's all about). Enjoy it man, rack up the airline points and hotel points. You'll hit Diamond level at hiltons within 6 months, then you can take some time off and take the family somewhere for basically free. Enjoy! Living the dream

First, congrats on your new job. I have heard only good things about the 604 and that is a good type to have... Nice and comfy up front too with an FA to keep you well fed and watered. Enjoy the FA while you can - at least before you move to the L40/45.

One slightly off topic question for you: did Flex mention the 605 and whether you would be typed in that aircraft as well or whether you would migrate to or stay in the 604? I know the 605 will have the ProLine 21 cockpit which you have experience in with the CJ3. Do you know how many and when Flex will start getting the 605 (maybe to ultimately replace the 604 down the road)?

Again, great job with the 604 slot at Flexjet!

Rick and Karen mentioned they'd be taking deliveries of the 605 really soon, but I can't recall the specific numbers. I believe the plan is to phase out all 604's, eventually, since Flex only keeps planes 3-5 years.

I read on another thread that the 605 will be the same type rating, with two days of differences training. From what I've picked up, the performance isn't significantly different from the 604's. I guess the Pro Line is probably the biggest difference.

Congrats on flex bro. You'll like it. Don't expect much international unless you ask for it. Enjoy the 604 like he said because, you know where you go when you make captain!! Did they tell you how long to upgrade?? We're seeing right at 2 years to upgrade right now but curious as to what they thought.

They weren't that explicit on the whole upgrade thing, and I didn't ask. I guess I just figure I'll take it when it comes. If it takes four years, so be it. If it takes two, that's just gravy.

So is drawing the 604. It'll be nice to fly something I can actually stand up in. At least, for awhile.

I'm just glad to be aboard. You guys sound like you really like it, which was one of the things I mentioned to CP Rick during my interview: the noticeable lack of belly-achy posts from Flexjet guys.

Hope that means something, other than the fact that there's five times as many NetJet guys out there and, hence, a proportionately greater number of gripers.

See you soon!

What kind of schedule do you guys have at Flex? I know it's not 7 and 7.

It's not 7/7 but, you can ultimately get it. Here's how it works so peeps will quit asking:

You are guaranteed 16 days of work out of 28.
You can tell the system you are willing to work up to 2 days more.
You can tell the system you are willing to work up to 2 days less.
You are guaranteed 4 days off after working 6(if you chose that).
The minimum guaranteed days off is 3.
The minimum days to work is 4.
Now, with all that, you tell the system what you either desire or want to avoid. This can be almost anything you can think of, literally. From, I don't want to duty-on on Thursdays to, I want to begin work on Thursdays. Too many variables to list here but, you get the idea.

SO, what it boils down to is this: you may work 4,5,6, or 7(if you chose it) days in a 28 day period. If you had chosen to work as little as 14 your days off will be 14; or, 12 days off if you had chosen to work the 16. confused??

Here's an example of someone that chose to work 14: 6on/4off 4on/5off 4on/5off ; OR it could be this (based on what you want) 5/5 5/5 4/4. OR it could be something crazy like this: 4/7 6/4 4/3 ; OR this: 5/8 5/5 4/3 (because your last 2 days bled into the next bid period)

SO, when you ask a flexjet person what the schedule is....it's a loaded
answer!

I HIGHLY advise you new guys to look at the schedules in PBS and find someone that works what you want to work. Ask that person what they bid or get the planner to fill it out for you. They are VERY helpful in helping you out with PBS--don't hesitate to ask for help.

What are the chances for airline types who are 121 Charter that are about to retire? Does Flex want guys like us? Also, what's the 30 question ATP test like?
Thanks for the info.

We have alot of retired American and Delta guys. I definitely wouldn't sweat that atp test, it's really a joke I think! With your time, you'll laugh when you take it. Basically, if you meet the minimums, you can get hired. They definitely don't discriminate against older guys! Customers like to see some gray hair up front! Send your resume ppriest!

I agree with doyle. Also, you have to ask yourself the big question. Can I take orders from someone who is 20 to 30 something and potentially a female. Some people have issues with that. Just as you have read in other posts, this can be a hard working job of slinging bags, doing lavs, cleaning the interiors, etc. We have had many former airline guys who did not like it and left. Also, some folks have disliked not knowing what you schedule was each and every day. While some days, everything goes according to plans, others change from minute to minute. When you hear people say, "We put the Flex in Flexible", they are not joking. Good luck in whatever way you go.

Congrats and welcome aboard I think you will love it here. As you said the interview was very easy and during mine I had the ACP for the 60 doing my sim eval. He was very surprised when I showed him how we use to roll the Lears when I was flying freight and just asked me not to do that with the Flex LR's LOL.

If I'm living in JAX, can I drive down to be in position to work, or do they not allow this?

If they do, can anybody based in S. FL tell me if this in reality is do-able with the schedules?

Thanks

Well I'm not based in S. Fla., but I know how far it is from JAX to PBI!/FLL!!/MIA!!! Yeah it's allowed, but whatcha gonna do? Start out at 10 pm the night before to start a full day of work? You're not gonna want to do that.
