And thats a major mistake. Regardless of the circumstances, per diem is not part of a salary. It is nothing more than the cost of doing business on the road, period. "Those" pilots should get a free class in budget economics.

Everyone knows what per diem is supposed to be for. That it winds up supplementing frac salaries is the unfortunate truth. I'm sure the pilots know how much of their per diem they have safely been able to use for other needs. For all your scoffing, WP, that it is even a remote possibility shows that something is wrong with the economic picture. I don't think taking an economics class is going to force the company to change their meal policy. It's going to take all of the pilots standing shoulder to shoulder to do that. They might even have to hold up a picketing sign while they're at it, but that is far better than being a doormat, any day. The solution isn't to take a class it's to send in a card.

I hardly doubt things are that "dire" that pilots are going to skip meals to pay the gas bill. Except for CFIs and a few a Lear pilots, I don't think there are to many starving pilots.

And if life was that dire for me, the first thing I would do is cancel the internet, pull my wife away from the computer(hint) and find her a job. Then I would start looking for a new position to support my family instead of bitching on the net about it.

7 meal choice still applies to falcons and bbj's. It keeps guys like safety in the seat from having to make those tough choices in life on what to eat.

When I talked to him, he was walking acrossed the parking lot at the waterview. right now he is at home with company from out of town . Can't make it much more simple than that biatch.
 
The fact remains, no matter how much you'd like to overlook it, that charging for meals when they hadn't previously done so, is tantamount to a pay cut. Yes per diem is to be used for expenses like meals, but that has always been when the crew food is not provided. Like it or not, per diem is used to supplement frac wages. That it could pose ANY degree of hardship for a pilot shows how badly underpaid many of the pilots are. That has to change and many see 1108 as the best resource frac pilots have to obtain the contract they need.

PILOTS ARE PROFESSIONALS AND SHOULD BE COMPENSATED ACCORDINGLY
