If you could do both I don't think you would have posted for input on this board. With that said you have to get your 4 yr degree, it is priceless and a must for the majors. You are still young enough to have a 20-25 yr career with a possible top 10 airline/cargo company.

At FedEx, turbo-prop PIC is just as good as turbine PIC. The extra 10K to give up a 4 yr degree doesn't even seem comparable IMHO. You have the flight time, get the degree.
Well, maybe he THOUGHT he couldn't do both, and we can convince him otherwise??!?!? :)

You're right, though - - IF he can't do both, the degree is by far the most important goal.

I'd start getting concerned about time, too. The difference in retirement from a 20-yr career with the major and a 25-yr career with the major is HUGE. Witness the LARGE number of over-60 guys we have here that hang around on the panel of the slave-ship or the TEN to achieve the magic 25. I wish I had known how important THAT little piece of the puzzle was before I lingered with Uncle Sam as long as I did.

As previously mentioned, if you thought doing both was something you wanted to do, you probably would not be asking our opinions. At this point, your flight experience is quite competetive and you are current. You'll need the degree. If you only do one or the other, get the degree. You are still flying, so you'll be current, and if, after your degree is complete, the big boys aren't hiring, you can always upgrade then if the opportunity still presents itself. Folks, he's logging Multi-PIC, Lear SIC and working on the degree. I'd say that's pretty good!

Huge, I doubt that the originator has a full understanding of the broad range of independent study degrees available. There are ways to get the degree at a reasonable price.

If there is NO way to do both, then I'll agree with you. He already has the PIC, now get the degree.

Good point.

I attended UVSC in Utah; I'm finishing my last year online and it's a great deal at no additional cost. I wanted to move back to Houston for a better CFI job and still finish the degree. It’s working out fine for me. Go for both!
