Of coure there is nobody wanting to invest that kind of money in a pilots license for the pay. That's why there is a "Multi Crew Licence". No ticket, no problem- you can still sit up and fly while enjoying the view. It's like the ultimate inturnship- until one biffs in while the captain is trying to fly/flight instruct/ manage the airplane in bad weather while on an approach with someone that has NO CLUE what is going on, let alone what they are doing......

Kit will always be Kit - making money and all; I heard he's in bad shape though, might need a bypass? At least that's what I heard, if so I do hope he gets better...

Don't agree with his aggressive sales tactics but want no harm to the individual...

Ive been to a seminar where he showed up.

He's got the used car salesman blazer with the act to match.

The highlight of the seminar was when even the recruiters giving the intro speeches took shots at him for his eternal pilot shortage message.

What a prick.

I assume you went to an AirInc seminar? If so, I sure hope he "showed up" as he owns AirInc and every three months or so he opens up each job fair in person...

I agree, I was simply bringing up a rumor I heard, didn't mean to imply you meant him harm...

Even if there was a pilot shortage in the US, it wouldn't help anything. The only thing that would happen is you would see the Multi Crew Licence come in to play quicker. As soon as that happens, you've effectively doubled the amount of pilots in this country, and the FO pay will drop as candidates become more available to do this with no experience or flight background required. ALPA needs to kill this thing off.

I keep reading that many pilots are concerned about this MPL thing, but that's one thing I'm really not concerned about, outside, of course, the suitability of a low time guy sitting in the right seat of a jet in the first place. But I don't think the MPL will flood the market with pilots for one simple reason- it still costs 10's of thousands of dollars to go through a MPL course. Just like it costs 10's of thousands of dollars to go through a course with ALL ATP's or any other pilot puppy mill. No matter what route a perspective pilot chooses, he's still looking at paying 10's of thousands of dollars for a $20K/yr. regional F/O job, which, as we saw start to materialize last year, doesn't make much financial sense.

I don't think ALPA will be able to kill it off, either. I think they'll definitely have a say as to how a MPL-type course is implemented and/or developed, but that will probably be the extent of their influence.

Now, what would be really nice is if regional airlines were forced to have to pay for this MPL training, relieving the perspective pilot of having to front the high initial costs of pilot training. In this environment that's probably not going to happen, but perhaps during the "next upturn," in combination with the start of some retirements, we'll start to see that happen. Who knows.
