The guy is a SCAB

My mistake. It appeared that the label was being used loosely due to his membership status. Prompted by the emphatic post by my good friend Los1, I consulted an official list.

He is a SCAB.

My humblest apologies to sandman2122!

My original posting was on recommendations for buddies and it turned into a free-for-all on one of our pilots. That wasn't my intent.

Does anyone have any info on applicant recommendation process lately?

Please start another post on the topic this post turned into.

Hey, you're the one that posted this:

PS For all you folks in MEM there were good Letters to the Editor in the Commercial Appeal today.......page B5.
I guess we just had more to say about the 3rd paragraph than the first two.

While I can't endorse the use of the label "Scab," I certainly endorse the rest of the post.
I'd refer you to Webster's on that one, Tony:
scab
n.
  1. A crust discharged from and covering a healing wound.
  2. Scabies or mange in domestic animals or livestock, especially sheep.
    1. Any of various plant diseases caused by fungi or bacteria and resulting in crustlike spots on fruit, leaves, or roots.
    2. The spots caused by such a disease.
  3. Slang. A person regarded as contemptible.
    1. A worker who refuses membership in a labor union.
    2. An employee who works while others are on strike; a strikebreaker.
    3. A person hired to replace a striking worker
Your Captain Bauman fits 2 of the 3 definitions.

Which 2 definitions.....

The crust discharge covering a wound? The mange on sheep?

"Hugh" :)

I don't deny that such a definition exists. I simply choose not to endorse that use as it relates to union members. To do so, in MY OPINION, dilutes the seriousness of the offense of crossing a picket line. As I'm sure you know, the published list does not mention pilots that refuse membership in a labor union; it lists those who have stabbed other pilots in the back by working when a legal withdrawal of services was in progress. Reserving the label for these offenders, in MY OPINION, emphasizes the despicableness of the individuals who wear it.

It's not my aim to persuade anyone to agree with that opinion. I speak here only to explain my previous statements. I should have referenced the list prior to my first post on the thread and that would have prevented the confusion and further hijack of the thread.

Sorry, FedExFlyer.

Tony,

I see your point and it's reasonable. "Non-member", however, seems too delicate of a term to describe someone also pretty contemptable, albiet not as much so as the line-crosser.

My apologies for further hijacking this thread.

Here ya go folks... a hint of one of the great underlying major probs in Barneyland.... All nonmembers are scabs...lots of our guys just don't treat them like scabs. In MY OPINION the seriousness of the offenses is identical. Like the man said...a scab is a scab is a scab is a .....

Whatever the case, the guy isn't that bright to highlight himself like he did. Good chance he will be ostracized the rest of his career (hopefully short career) at FedEx.
