The bid process

There are no stupid questions, only stupid people...

How frequently does the company change the equipment that services cities? It seems like this would be a pretty big issue for folks that manage to work their schedule to fly to their home city and back.

What is the bid process referred to here? Is it just a re-shuffling of everyone that wants to bid a new seat/airframe to see how much seniority they will have? Do you have to wait for one of these bids to be able to change seats/airframe?

Lastly

What's the latest on the meet & greets?

Thanks

Like being a ALPA non-member. All your "fellow pilot's" are paying their dues, are you Foxhunter?

Finally, for you folks who have "friends" who are non-members at FedEx should realize they will be the FIRST ones to cross a picket line. Think about that next time you shake their hand or share a cup of coffee with them.....

The answer to your first question is yes.:) I wrote a rather large check and mailed it to Herndon last week.

If I was you I would not worry about the non-members that would cross the picket line. The problem will be the members. The guys from EAL will tell you that the guys that you never thought would cross were among the first to cross, and the guys that they knew would probably cross never did.

I've been out on strike twice as an ALPA pilot at Seaboard. I have never had any intention of changing that record. Hope we never have to strike, but if necessary I will. Lot easier for me to say that than others because I've been lucky enough to accumulate enough to ride it out. It can be a lot tougher for a younger guy with kids in school, house payments, car payments, medical payments. The last thing you want is a failed strike, or a stike that you settle for what was on the table the day you walked.

I've heard that the european domicle will be CDG using A310's, the intra-asian domicile will be MD10's with the domicile in Hong Kong and the hub in China. I really need to see the system form changes, how the pay is broken out for each seat/aircraft, and what the work rule changes are before I make my next move....

whoa, nelly, did I get that right?? Fox Hunter paid to get back into the ALPA fold?????

Unclear. As of today his name is no longer on the non-member list. HOWEVER, it is on the "non-members on dues checkoff" list.

SO, it would appear that he did not pony up the full amount of back dues that he owed. Or maybe he just put himself on dues checkoff without paying any back dues.

This isn't the first time that he has quit ALPA if I recall the '95-96 time frame correctly. Also, wouldn't surprise me if he quit FPA when it finally started acting like a union.

Alright, back to the Jack email and FedEx news. Frickin Foxhunter and him justifying his non member status is hijacking every Fedex thread.

The aircraft type for the Euro domicile will make an impact on my bidding preference for the next bid. I am coming from the narrow body so my decision for Bus or MD might be swayed if I knew what was going to be in Europe. Do they not know for sure or why the big secret? Overall good news though...can't wait to see how junior the 727 Captain bid goes.

Welcome Back

I will take FoxHunter at his word, whether he got it all in one shot or is working on it a little at a time, I don't care. It is probably quite a sum.

Let me be the first to say "Welcome Back!" and Thanks....we are glad to have you!

I'm trying to decipher Jack's letter. With regard to LAX, is he saying it is going to be all domestic flying out of LAX, or that the increase was going to be in domestic flying? Any ideas?

I understood it to mean that the additional flying will be domestic. There is no way it could be ALL domestic flying.

Everyone knows that the training department is cranked up full speed. We have lots of new bodies coming off IOE and they are cleaning up Open Time on their custom lines.

I think the 75 and 73 replacement issue is dead. It seems to me that we are replacing the lost Boeings with A310 anyway. Plus we'll keep the remaining 72's as long as the EPA will let us which looks to be about 2010-2012.

Not sure why everyone gets so worked up about the practice bid. It NEVER even come close to the final bid. The only reason we even have a practice bid is because it is required per the contract.

DON'T FORGET ABOUT PILOTSWAP.NET, check it out and make some constuctive contributions please.

ONE MORE DAY OF RETRO PAY!

727 engine replacement is a viable option to keep the 200s around beyond 2012. All the 100s will be gone by october................unless something changes.

doggie, Although Membership Services mentioned a repayment plan I paid in full, $4,798.36. It was never about money. Hope to contribute something toward a well deserved contract.

Glad to take off the "Black Hat". We have our difference of opinions on certain issues, but I don't think we disagree on the need to get a fair contract. I know I've probably taken too much delight in stirring the pot. In the future I'll try to be more constructive.:)

I like you more already! I know people on this board have had you on their ignore list, but for everyone reading this that does, I believe Fox Hunter is paying his fair share again.

Better get on Memb Servs A$$. They show you as a non-member on dues checkoff.

Different viewpoints are great. Taking your ball and leaving is not. Welcome back. Looking forward to spirited debate with you.

Do you guys really believe this would be the only bid for a couple of years?

I am in the same boat as others trying to figure out what to bid. I was one of the last S/O's hired when the door shut a few years ago. I am well familiar with the reserve system and I am in no hurry to get back there. But I didn't plan on hanging out for two or three years with this next move. Do you think this is just a "Big Bid" with smaller ones over the next couple of years, or is this the only bid for a while?

I think they've got to have a clean-up bid unless something major happens. ie. world event, major economic change, age 60 change. etc.

i guess we'll see.

Historically they have huge bids...but bottom line is BID WHAT YOU WANT TO FLY...if you live in MEM..bid a window seat if you want..if you are a commuter you might want to think twice ....but if it is a big bid you will be in your current seat for years ..especially if they hire directly into the right seat of widebodies..tough decision..but good one to have..good luck

The process of regaining active status takes a bit of time.

I agree that the bus is going to be the replacement to the 72....but its not accurate to say 310s.

And its not a very important distiction really, but the 310 hasn't been produced in quite a while, and I think we have bought up what is still usable on the market. If you look at our fleet reliablity, the 300 is among the best and the 310 is among the worst...mostly because of age. The 300 is still being made, is newer, and about the only difference is that its longer. The 300 have bigger engines and better brakes (fans), and most short fields, burbank for example, will only accept the 300.

all that to say, that we will probably getting mostly 300s in the future.....and again...does it make a difference....no....

whatever..I'm bored

A bus is a bus to a 727 guy. Last I heard the F/Os on the bus got wet during walking arounds and had to carry paperwork sometimes. You also have to pour your own coffee...GEEZ...a guy could get a hangnail or something if he wasn't careful.

However, for the 175 or so ahead of me on the 727 F/O list, I do have to point out its a NICE, QUIET, SMOOOTH flying bird with a GREAT bid pack, and it is a nice pay raise--so I think everyone of you should make the MOVE now! Heck--if you don't you might be stuck here for years--and I know you don't want that.

Sorry Albie...but I'll be ahead of you on the slaveship for years  . The last thing I want to do is 2 or 3 months in that sorry excuse of a training department. Not to mention the "nice pay raise" really isn't all that nice. Not enough incentive for me anyway. I'd be in the Boeing right seat for the last 20 years of my career if they kept the airplanes that long. If there's an easier way to make money I haven't found it. Believe me I've looked. Maybe the -10 right seat, but that's a training iteration.

Your mileage may vary. Enjoy the bid.

guys...unless commuting is the issue...get off the slaveship! i spent 11 months on the panel and the last 10.5 yrs on the bus..it's a different airline..for one you can have a conversation without yelling..better trips..more dayflying..better pay...after a long leg you don't feel like somebody beat u up for the last 3 hrs..but whatever..just an opinion as this bid unfolds..but the left seat has run so junior lately that it should tell u something...

Foxhunter,
Welcome back, and I hope that you never feel like you have to leave again... I may not agree with what you espouse, but at least I think that I'll be able to have reasonable discourse with you... Without sounding holier than thou, you are forgiven, but not yet pardoned... Sorry, but it comes with the territory of the decisions we all make in life...

As for the practice bid, I think we should all bid what we intend to do (If we can decide given so many variables)... Does this help the company? Yes... Does this help the crew force? Yes... Hopefully, we (the crew force and the company) will one day feel that we're on the same team... I know the ball's mostly in the company's hands on this issue, but if I can help one of you out there with my honest assesment of what I plan to do, then that's what I'll attempt to do....

FWIW, I'm going to change domiciles from ANC to MEM on the MD... While ANC is not a bad place, as a commuter, I don't want to take the chance of having to stay there for the next three years... Not as many NWA flights as there used to be...

Take Care!
Murdawg5

Heard a rumor from the training dept to brace for months of hiring guys right into the right seat of all planes, with little to no new hires going to the panel. Anyone else hear that??

Any help moving to ANC?

Dumb question I know, BUT... Does FedEx help it's employees move to ANC like it does to SFS? Not necessarily pay for the whole thing like Subic, but at least help somewhat through discount or other method. Just curious because moving all the way to ANC from the east coast would not be fun, especially on new hire pay.

Keeping fingers crossed for the panel in MEM,

TSD
