Runninhorn-

The civilian road is a hard one traveled...but it can be done. I would guestimate that 2/3 of FedEx pilots are ex-military.

As a cilivian I would say that the 1000 turbine PIC and the 4 yr degree are the two toughest requirements...no way to get around them. It took me 12 years to get the phone call from a major, luck for me it was FedEx who called first back in '01. 2 yrs (private to CFI, II , MEI) earning an Associate in Aviation, 2 yrs flying part time while finishing up bachelor degree, 1 yr of flight instructing flying 7 days a week, then 7 yrs of flying corporate full time. Hired at age 31.

I don't see how you could manage working at FedEx and building hours on the side to meet the minimums...its hard, real hard.

This business can be ruthless and at the same time very rewarding. What I've learned about being successful in avaition is that you need persistance, a little luck and some great timing.

Hopefully the moons will line up for you as well. Best of luck.
