For all the flames this might receive...

"My best friends, sister's cousins, roomate's uncle's brother heard that:"

last week Fedex bought 13 Airbus A300-600's from Air India and
8 of Delta's remaining MD-11's and
3 of Varig's MD-11's.
The first of the Varig airframes to be delivered next spring sometime.

Of course, we'll believe it when it's painted purple and sitting at the Corky's drive-thru...

Anyone else hear anything of the like?

Not exactly.

I heard Atlas is going to buy FedEx.

:D

Yupp... (well, the Air India and Varig parts, anyway)

And, as it has been pointed out before, they don't have to be painted White and Purple - - we're still flying those United birds with United colors.

Sitting in Subic right now earning One More Day of Retro Pay and I did hear the following rumors:

3 Varig's MD-11s purchased, 2 in conversion right now
Looking to buy more Airbus 310's
Some new 727-200 TD is out that is very expensive and will affect many of our airplanes, rather get rid of them than do the TD

We did get new China routes, and I think we will need more airplanes (MD-11s) to fly the routes, and more MD-11 drivers.

I love good rumors like these.

That's funny

Did a search on airliners.net and found 5 of them!

That, of course, is not an A300-600, but an A300B4. Different.

oh yeah that is different......we don't want them :)

When you search for Air India Airbus 310, a bunch of those come up so maybe that is the plane they are talking about. Fedex does operate the baby bus.

I think that Airbus has a mod that will turn it into an A300-600 cockpit. They also do a cargo conversion. Sort of like the MD-10.

"Tradewinds" cargo out of KGSO (I believe) flys the A300 B4. DHL also flys them too, I recall reading about the A300 shot down over Bagdad was a "B4" model.....could be wrong though.

Shot down - - well, not exactly. Shot at, hit, extensive damage - - crew of 3, including FE, managed to bring it safely back to earth with no hydraulics, a la Sioux City style.

He11, I'd be willing to sit sideways in a Bus if they asked me to. As long as the coffee jug fits better than it does in the Boeing;)

Seriously, I have heard some chatter from folks in the schoolhouse about new widebody acquisitions.
