How long can a new hire direct to B727 FO plan to sit reserve?
How long can a new hire B727 FE plan to be on reserve?

Thanks.

Thanks.

I'd say that a new FE should be off reserve in under 3 months (assuming hiring continues as forecast).

As for the new hire FO -- anybody's guess, but I'll venture at least 6 mos to a year.

727 FO reserve

There really isn't such a thing right now. I finished upgrade training in Nov. I got a custom line in Dec. Jan I got reserve which was voluntarily converted to a secondary line. Feb I held a line.

I was dead last on the right seat seniority list and never sat reserve. I am probably still in the bottom 30 and no sight of reserve. We are SO SHORT in our seat there really isn't anyone on reserve. Coverage of sick calls and last minute added flights are all covered by draft/volunteer.

Our "max open" (amount of reserves for any give day) is usually around 3-5 per day. This is reserve-24hr, reserve-B, and reserve-A all together. Like I said, no-one is on reserve.

72 FO new hire time in seat

Great info all, much thanks!

Here's a question for anyone: if a new hire goes right to the 72 FO slot, is he/she locked into that seat for a minimum time period or can they bid right seat of the Maddog (should that be available to them) in the next vacancy bid (which a lot of folks are saying could be within the next year)?

as long as it is upward movement, you can go anytime, lateral or downward movement is a 2 year freeze...

also heard today that in march there will be 2 classes of 58 each!!
anybody know anything about this?
Los1

Heard the rumor too!

A buddy of mine just interviewed today and he was told the same in regards to two classes of 58 in March ( for a total of 116 .... I ran out of fingers and toes so had to break out the calculator). Seems that was all the interviewers spoke of today during the informal "lunch interview".
:)

Where'd it go?
Right in the lumberyard.
Don't worry Danny,....the world needs ditchdiggers too.

Pick Up the flag!! No Infraction on the field!!

Touchdown T.O. and the Eagles win the Super Bowl!!!...
Oh wrong fantasy, S#it the Eagles still lost (we WILL be back!!)
Anyway-
just spoke again to my bud who interviewed yesterday and the day before (8 and 9 Feb).
Straight from John Ryder--
two classesof 30 in Feb (21 and 28 feb)
2 Classes of 58, I say again 58, on 21 and 28 Mar
pretty friggin' amazing
see ya

Next bid

After our last large bid, I wouldn't expect another bid until late fall. HOWEVER, after reviewing the training letter, the last guys to start 727 FO upgrade enter class on Jun 22nd. That said, I would imagine there would be another bid early summer to keep the pipeline going.

Hiring directly into the right seat could slightly change the theory.

I got a couple weeks of passover pay last year and this is how it worked. . .
.
.
The passover people (Crew Pay, I think) wait until both you AND your junior dude activate before they dole out the passover pay in one lump sum. That keeps them from any possibility of having to collect it back if either of you don't complete training.
.
.
Once the training letter is out, they will identify the person that is junior to you that will activate passover pay. They say that they scrub the list continually, but I found it doesn't hurt to make a reminder e-mail or phone call after you activate to ensure they didn't "forget".
.
.

Thats how I thought it worked as well, but was informed on another thread by another FedEx guy that there is an LOA out now that allows them to pay upon activation by the junior guy instead of waiting until you activate. I haven't actually seen the LOA though so I can't attest to its validity. It may only occur in special situations.

One question on passover pay. Does domicile matter? Specifically, in this last training letter, the anchorage guys train before several MEM MD-11 folks. Will all the MEM guys be entitled to POP?

Good question. I just checked the contract, and it makes no mention of bases, only that training is scheduled by system seniority, senior first, for that crew position. If you then look at Section 24.D.2.a.i. it states that one caveat is that the junior pilot and senior pilot have to hold an award for the same crew position. So the question is, are all MD-11 FOs the same crew position, or is an ANC MD-11 FO considered a different crew position than a MEM MD-11 FO? I would guess they are all the same crew position, in which case a lot of guys will be getting passover pay. Hope this helps.

One other thing I didn't check closely, are the senior guys who are being displaced in training Airbus FOs or DC-10 FOs? If so, their passover pay will be very little ($0), since the pay rate is the same.

.

Passover pay applies to Crew Position- and it is seat AND base. In other words, MD-11 f/o ANC, or A-300 capt SFS. I am waiting for the MD-11 class in the fall, and I will be MEM based. There are a ton of junior guys going to training before me, but they are in the LAX and ANC MD-11 base. SO I won't get passover pay. I had to look at the front of the contract under definitions "crew position" to figure this one out.

They are pretty slick over there, they don't want to be giving out passover pay to a bunch of guys if they don't have to.

Ok, back to the hub turn in progress.....

How true is it that the average lifespan of FedEx (and other freight) pilots is reduced significantly due to extensive backside of the clock flying?
It's probably not any worse than flying eight legs a day. Done both and my body prefers two short legs a day.

FedEx Reserve ???

FedEx Reserve.
How is it set up ?
What does A , B, 24 hour mean ?
Are there any "rest protected "times ?

.
.
.
Reserve "A" - On call from 0001 to 1200 for a showtime of 0130 to 1330
Reserve "B" - On call from 1201 to 2359 for a showtime of 1330 to 0130
Reserve "24" - On call 24 hours for showtime minumum of Phone Call + 24 hours (not as good deal as you think).

Is it easier to commute to ANC from the west coast then to Memphis. Also what MD base has the better trips?

Does Fedex hire mostly prior military? It seems that most of the people on this thread are all from military backgrounds.
