I'm told by a very good source, expect an update in June after the bid. Then the plan for next year will be finalized. Age 65 will not happen overnight, or even this year. That means (speculatively) around 400 pilots, possibly. Nothing happening for a couple of months though.
Rumors fly everywhere, but this is what Management is thinking and it seems to be commonly accepted on line as well as the best info currently available.
General - some of the over 60 crowd already goes back to SO positions. From a "new hire" perspective it really does not matter if the folks ahead of them on the list are sitting sideways, or straight ahead. An unfilled slot is an unfilled slot. There are also many questions about bidding, the company, and the contract. Just because someone can fly as PIC does not mean the rest of the seniority list and the Company are going to negotiate a deal that lets them do so. Nothing about this can be assumed right now.
Delta will likely reduce the supply of 757's in the used market anyway.
Ninerfan - are these DH legs long enough to invoke the "Business Class" requirement in the contract? If so, not bad, although with enforced rest on the leg over it could get to be a long trip.
