Articles about the AA fiasco say that the wiring for the aux hydraulic pumps has to be bound at one inch intervals and some bindings were found at more than one inch. The wiring bundle is easily visible, but time consuming to re-secure.

Any DC9 derivative is going to have this issue.

Sounds like an over-reaction on an item that has not been causing problems that I've heard anything about in safety circles.

Hate it for all involved.

Maybe this is the latest airline tactics to save money due to the fuel spike. Maybe it couldn't hurt to cancel over 300 flights instead of pissing fuel away on fuel guzzling airplane on money losing routes and reaccomodate pax on other flights on a slow midweek day, and check some wires volunteerily. Scheduled carriers can't cancel flights just because it's not full. Maybe they got it all figured out...haha.

I believe this is different then SWA, Delta was grounded to do the inspection. SWA was not doing the inspections that were required, and as a result fined 10 million dollars. At least DAL is following the law.

Hopefully this new FAA emphasis on perfect maintenence will result in less outsourcing. And hopefully other work groups start to pony up some negotiating capital to get scope. Far too much of that burden has fallen on the pilots, with other work groups benefitting as a result.
