Water Ski?

Why on Earth (or water) is Trans States' call sign "Water Ski"?

For the call signs, you can go right to the horses mouth:

And for "Waterski", I was told that their corporate logo of a stylized "S" looked like the tracks made by a ski. The author must of liked water skiing better than snow skiing.

The reason TSA is known as "waterski" is because they acquired the former Resort Air, hense the callsign.

what are the requirements to get a call sing for 91 ops? Are there any out there?

John Deere is the only 91 operator who I know of that has a call sign. I am sure there are others, but they are the only one I know of.

Civil Air Patrol is another Part 91 operation. Call sign: "CAP-FLIGHT".

There are quite a few 91 operations that use call signs. Several flight schools use them. I think Purdue uses Purdue 1, etc for their a/c, but only at their airport, not others.

Does anyone know the regulation that says you must use your N number to identify yourself?

All of the fractionals are part 91 operators with call signs. "ExecJet", "FlexJet", "Options" etc.

Trans States actually started as Resort Air. At that time they flew a lot of people down to the Lodge of the Four Seasons on the Lake of the Ozarks. Most of those people were waterskiers. The 3 letter identifier for TSA is LOF after the Lodge of the Four Seasons.

call signs

I work for a charter company and we use a call sign, to my understanding, check this out with your fsdo, its all paperwork.
we registered our 3letter ident with our aircraft N #'s and changed them to UEJ 500 ;UEJ 600 ETC....so when center sees that on the screen they should know it is us...sorta..we get called everything but our callsign except when we are it our home area center. (we only have 13 airplanes, so unless we go to the same places alot, they have no clue who we are)
