What they knew and when they knew it

The company knew your times when you were hired. They don't know since then how much IMC you have flown because the company does not keep track of cloud position and how that relates to flight path. They don't have the resources to check the astrological data for the cities you flew to/from at the precise time and date you flew there to determine whether your flights were "night." If you are flying in the military or somewhere else, they don't have those times either.

If you are going to fill out an 8710 to get an ATP - you have to be an adult (23 years old) and somewhate responsible. Any pilot who can't fill out a log book and keep it up to date does not deserve an ATP. If you already have an ATP and are not looking for another job - then you don't need to keep it. Maybe.

I'm thinking this is just directed at those who don't have their ATP. I never got this email.

Wouldn't your times change as your career progresses??????? Especially if you were hired, with say, 250-300 hrs. ............

Geez, you're getting an ATP...........for free. Fill the bloody thing out (which you will eventually have to do anyway to upgrade), quit your WHINING, and STFU! Put the big boy pants on and get it done. Not a big deal, what so ever.

Yeah, but what about PBS????

Generation Me

C'mon now. We're talking about the same group of people that still don't know how to take the trash out of the cockpit.

Who care's, everyone just pencil in the minimums and move on.

...to back this statement up further.

Section III of the 8710 instructions:

RECORD OF PILOT TIME. The minimum pilot experience required by the appropriate regulation must be entered. It is recommended, however, that ALL pilot time be entered. If decimal points are used, be sure they are legible. Night flying must be entered when required. You should fill in the blocks that apply and ignore the blocks that do not. Second In Command “SIC” time used may be entered in the appropriate blocks. Flight Simulator, Flight Training Device and PCATD time may be entered in the boxes provided. Total, Instruction received, and Instrument Time should be entered in the top, middle, or bottom of the boxes provided as appropriate.

I have to say logging Instrument time in the 121 environment is an absolute joke. It seems I am instrument all the time. Cant see past my USA Today.

Actually the company wants to see how many pilots are ready to upgrade because there is going to be a large amount of flying very soon. They want to make sure they have the cpts to fill the left seats. The replacement FOs will be lower time pilots off the street.

If what I'm hearing is true, it could be a possibility, and would be exactly this. I will simply say that quite a few eyes are on the happenings at AA. Take note of the company's change in mood for a contract.

B.S. we will continue to shrink. This has only to do with the new ATP bill. As far as AA flying, we're more likely to fly A330s for Emirates. GoJet will be picking up that flying on the cheap.

New flying my butt.

With 5+ year FOs on both sides of the operation, if I was in charge I'd be less worried about where I could find qualified captains and more worried about where I could find qualified new hires.

They can't staff and maintain 12 additional aircraft. Thanks to the age of the interweb- people know it's a crap company to work for.

There's more to RFPs than cheap payrates/crews. Any regional bidding against Skywest Inc with the exception of maybe Republic will have a tough time securing airplanes at a cheaper lease. TSA holdings is a private company so no outsider officially knows their financial status but rumblings in a recent Aviation Week article said that its on shaky ground, and SH pretty much said GoJet bid the flying at a loss.

Apparently its been standard.practice for a while to bid at a loss to survive another day but it looks like the last days for several companies.
