I don't think it's ridiculous. In upgrade training they need your total times prior to starting. In your oral exam for your ATP/EMB 145 PIC type rating they will dig through your logbook just like on any other checkride to make sure it's all correct. It's your responsibility to make sure you meet the requirements and you will have to prove your figures during your next checkride I'd imagine. Might as well get it all added up, you're going to have to for upgrade anyway. Good thing is all pay registers going back to dec 07 were brought over from CCS and are on Xjet.com

This is ridiculous. They know how much time I had when I got hired/took my initial checkride(filled out an 8710), they know how much I have flown for them, why cant they do the math and figure out in 6 years as an FO I PROBABLY meet the minimums for an ATP. Hell I am going to upgrade in May, I hope I meet the mins.

Maybe for the newer guys that have been here less than a year I can understand, but if you get hired at our bare mins(500tt) in basically one year, maybe 18 months, you will probably meet the mins for an ATP.

My guess is this is yet another thing that the company doesnt want to pay somebody to do(records checks) and will just push it off on the pilot group to accomplish for free.

Company records would at best provide the company with total time & a portion of cross-country time, but how could the company be sure about these?

[*]Total Night Time
[*]Total Instrument Time in Simulated Conditions
[*]Total Instrument Time, in Actual or Simulated Instrument Conditions
[*]Total Time as Pilot In Command (PIC) in an Airplane
[*]Total PIC Time in an Airplane, Cross Country
[*]Total PIC Time in an Airplane, at Night
[/LIST]

Some of these could be a problem for F/Os who went straight from a 141 pilot-mill to an airline. Most are probably fine, but I don't blame the company for wanting to be sure. They wouldn't want to spend money on sim time just to have your 8710 rejected. You're going to have to provide these times for an upgrade anyway and it should only take 2 minutes if your logbook is remotely up to date.

I'm more than happy to provide my times if the there is any chance the company will pay for an ATP this year. As a 6 year F/O with no hope of upgrading I'd love to get an ATP on the company's dime. I want out of this place.

When I upgraded it took a little more than 2 mins but a lot less than 45.

I was fairly certain that it was a me generation thing I just wanted to make sure.

Why is this even a topic? Fill it out,get your ATP within the next 18 months. Seems like a no brainer, no discussion kind of thing

What they knew and when they knew it

The company knew your times when you were hired. They don't know since then how much IMC you have flown because the company does not keep track of cloud position and how that relates to flight path. They don't have the resources to check the astrological data for the cities you flew to/from at the precise time and date you flew there to determine whether your flights were "night." If you are flying in the military or somewhere else, they don't have those times either.

If you are going to fill out an 8710 to get an ATP - you have to be an adult (23 years old) and somewhate responsible. Any pilot who can't fill out a log book and keep it up to date does not deserve an ATP. If you already have an ATP and are not looking for another job - then you don't need to keep it. Maybe.

I'm thinking this is just directed at those who don't have their ATP. I never got this email.

Wouldn't your times change as your career progresses??????? Especially if you were hired, with say, 250-300 hrs. ............

Geez, you're getting an ATP...........for free. Fill the bloody thing out (which you will eventually have to do anyway to upgrade), quit your WHINING, and STFU! Put the big boy pants on and get it done. Not a big deal, what so ever.

Yeah, but what about PBS????

Generation Me

C'mon now. We're talking about the same group of people that still don't know how to take the trash out of the cockpit.

Who care's, everyone just pencil in the minimums and move on.

...to back this statement up further.

Section III of the 8710 instructions:

RECORD OF PILOT TIME. The minimum pilot experience required by the appropriate regulation must be entered. It is recommended, however, that ALL pilot time be entered. If decimal points are used, be sure they are legible. Night flying must be entered when required. You should fill in the blocks that apply and ignore the blocks that do not. Second In Command “SIC” time used may be entered in the appropriate blocks. Flight Simulator, Flight Training Device and PCATD time may be entered in the boxes provided. Total, Instruction received, and Instrument Time should be entered in the top, middle, or bottom of the boxes provided as appropriate.
