"If an individual holds a plastic type license, it must be accompanied by a letter from the regulatory authority to confirm that the license is valid."

This is from the pilot briefing document. I called the faa and they said that this is something that the company must do. Not me.

Has anyone else had to deal with this?
Thanks.

Unfortunately, I think the individual at the FAA that you spoke with may not have been familiar with what you are asking. You can get a verification letter sent out from the FAA, but it is sent to you (not Emirates) and then you can forward on to the recruitment office at emirates. Look on the FAA sight under Airman certification or call 866 878 2498. They can email it to you via a pdf file. It's a quick process.

Emirates is going to want company documentation of your last recurrent check ride to back up your license.

I interviewed on Dec. 15 2007 and this is want they wanted from me. Id go with whatever you can get easier FAA verification or Company verification. Also they are VERY ambiguous about what documents they want from you when you show up, but if you don't have what they want it won't disqualify you for the job. They will give you the opportunity to get the required documentation to them.

Hey BMP2003, couple questions for ya. Did you go to a recruitment session to schedule an interview or did you do it conventionally online? If you did it online, how long from shortlist to interview call? Thanks!

Sioux115 i applied on line and then about 2 weeks later got a call to START the interview process in Atlanta. In Atlanta i completed the Sim ride. Because they made a mistake and called me to interview 600 hours below their mins im just now going to dubia. Next week actually 3-9 through 3-11. sorry it took so long for a reply hopefully you already got a call to interview, seems to happen pretty fast.

Flying a 777 Internationally - Check out this clip

For those of you who want a glimpse of what it is like to fly a 777 internationally (as you would for EK), here's a clip from an Austrian 777 flight from Vienna to Kuala Lampur and onto Sydney last summer I believe. Looks like a nice bird.

If the interview lasts three days, how many days do you get to travel? What i am asking for is the total days i need to take off for the interview process. I imagine 1 day travel before and after for a total of 5.

thanks for the help.

I just got notice that I am on the shortlist for an interview so I am hoping to go in the coming months. If you do go plan on being there for about a week to be safe.
Now for the rest of you what will the accept in place of the logbook endorsement from the company? I would cost me lots of money and time to go to my companies HQ to try and get some one to sign my logbook for me.
Thanks

You leave on Day 1 from your Home airport and arrive in DXB via JFK or IAH the next day. Day 3,4,5 will be the assessment and Day 6 will be your travel day back.

As far as your logbook is concerned try to get something that states your flight times with your current company, even if it is not signed. If you're unable to get that (Boss is threatening to fire you or something like that), don't worry about it. Bring your logbooks (Signed by you), explain the situation and that will be accepted at the interview.

Once you get hired by EK and resign your current job your current employer will have to give you some sort of certification for your flight times.

Just curious, when will the hiring for the A380 FO slots begin? I am not interested in applying but I am sure other people are curious too.

Answer to that question is uncertain. My guess is that it will happen at some point in the future, but probably not until late 2009 or 2010. The company has stated the requirements though and they are:

-4000 hours total time
-2000 jet hours
-1000 on A330/340 or other wide-body jet

That last one being the difficult one for someone coming form the U.S. Lots of foreign national airlines will have guys that meet those requirements.

How long is the seat lock if you get hired into the 777? Could you theoretically upgrade from the RHS 777 to the LHS on the A380?

Oh, and happy birthday! :)

Seat lock is three years. They do not do transition upgrades anymore, so the answer is no. You could theoretically go from the B777 to the A380 as a first officer after three years then upgrade on type after two more years.

TP--I'm assuming you mean A to B and vice-versa. If you had 3 years on the 777 and the 748I shows up, would you be eligible before a 340 FO? TC

I presume you are referring to the newer, bigger 747-400F. How many will Emirates be getting? When will they start to arrive? I wonder if that will be of interest to the current 777 pilots?

The 747-800 Freighters will go very senior, if they are flown by Emirates aircrew. There is a 50/50 chance they will be flown by someone else (Atlas).

I would imagine that current B777 pilots will have a leg up on the Airbus pilots as it should be a shorter transition course. A policy has not come out and probably won't until such time as management decides who will fly it.

The 747-800I is the pax version of the -800 freighter that EK already has on order.

They are looking for a high-capacity pax aircraft for DXB-LAX. I guess they will be starting service with the 777-200LX...

TP is right--until they get the airplane, everything is conjecture. TC

It's the 777-200LR ("Longer Range"). I would've like XR better too though... ;)

I don't think EK has ordered any 747-800i yet. I remember having read an interview with Tim Clark where said that Boeing can't give them the range necessary to do DXB-LAX with 747-800 at profitable Loads.

Ok, here's a quote I found from Oct. 2007:

On the 747-8 passenger model, Clark says configuration isn't quite where Emirates wants it, at least not yet. The carrier wants to transport about 400 people from Dubai to Los Angeles. Here, too, Clark is concerned about weight growth, which would greatly affect that very long-range route.

Has Emirates ordered the freighter version of the 747-800 yet? You would think with the burgeoning trade out of that area and the new airport facilities on the way that the 747-800 freighter might make sense - even if Atlas operates them.

AFAIK they've got 10 747-8 Freighters on order plus 10 Options.

777-200LR--as in "long range". I'm a little slow... ;) TC
