Rude people exist in the South, too.

Are you guys nuts?! Listen to us LIers like jagmagic and rice and you will have a great time in the Hamptons or anywhere on Long Island. There is always something fun to do within 15-20 min. of where you are anywhere on the Island. If you are stayin in the Hamptons, there are a ton of bars and clubs in the area with lots and lots of gorgeous women. I'd recommend Tavern in East Hampton, The DriftInn in East Quogue, The world famous Boardy Barn in Hampton Bays, etc...the list goes on and on. Take a taxi...it's worth it. If going out isn't your thing...there are many great restaurants in town (HTO) and also in Sag Harbor. As jagmagic mentioned, tons of golf courses, but don't be surprised if you have to pay some decent bucks for a weekend round if you get a tee time. All the other suggestions made by everyone else are great also.

Not sure who the rude guy is at the airport; but let's not turn this thing into a North vs. South battle. Rude people exist in the South, too.

You southern boys: Make sure you go and visit "Fire Island" where you will find plenty of fun people. If you like that kind of fun...

Makes my butt hurt just think'n about that one. :erm:

To the people who think all of Fire Island is gay, you don't have a clue. Yes there are two gay communities, the Pines and Cherry Grove. But there are about 10 other towns that are not. If you want to go to a town that has plenty to do, go to Ocean Beach (Take the Bayshore Ferry). Great restaurants and bars. The beach is beautiful and it is quiet on the weekdays. They have been shooting a reality show about a summer time-share for the past 3 weeks. Hopefully that will give you some insight on what to do at Fire Island.
