A good friend has offers at both airlines and is torn as to which one to choose. Any help from those who work there or who have recently left would be appreciated.

They're both in the same boat. Pick what ever paint job you think is prettier.

Well if he wants to stay west and doesn't mind flying the saab he'll be guaranteed LAX. I haven't heard any new Eagle rumors about being sold or what not. Life so far is pretty good here. I can't speak for Comair though. I don't know anyone over there and all that I know of them is through here. So, I don't think I would be able to fairly compare the two.

I'm not sure either one of those has a really great future right now. Delta's cutting RJ's and Eagles going up for sale. Having said that I can't name a regional that does have a secure outlook right now. Go to the one where you want to live or pays more.

Going to any regional now is like playing russian roulet. Just make the most informed decision you can and hope for the best. Anything can happen...especially in 2008.

SkyWest has bases in the west

Skywest would be his first choice, but he doesn't meet their mins. What is upgrade time at Eagle look like? It seems like I remember Comair upgrade to be running about 5-6 years last time I checked.

Go to either one and get a little experience then go somewhere you can upgrade quickly (you won't upgrade quickly at Comair or Eagle). I'd set your sights on Colgan or whatever company has deliveries when you move from Eagle or Comair. People will say "don't make a lateral move" but you are better off building time in a jet than flight instructing. This is a whole other debate but I guarantee anyone on FI who bitches about low time FOs wouldn't have turned down a job when they had low time.

we have FOs who've left Eagle, Horizon, Comair, etc. after years. I know a Horizon guy who was there for 6 years before coming to SkyWest.

go somewhere, get your time, then come to SkyWest.

If your friend is torn about these two then they must not be paying attention to the industry that much. Also for someone from the West, Comair just doesn't make any sense because of JFK. Eagle is exactly the same way except for the LAX base which they'll never get since it's being reduced.

I have been doing a lot of research on SkyWest. I was considering working there but I believe that the time to go to work for SkyWest has come and gone.

people were telling me the same thing 4 and 5 years ago. no one ever knows for sure, of course.

I guess the knobs above are sticking their fingers in their ears and saying 'LALALALALALA, I can't hear you'

nevertheless, what I said is true.
