Here is a process we all have come to love, especially since 9-11....

With the Advent of the CASS system and other security measures incorporated as a result of 9-11, there seems to be alot of misuse of the word "jumpseating".

There is "flight deck" jumpseating...the real deal...and there is sitting in the back with the other passengers, for me this means "pass riding"....

It seems there are so many different ways to pass ride and only a few ways to actually occupy the J/S on the flight deck. Is there any standard rules which apply to dispatcher now....If your CASS or not, Seniority with other employees, or other company employees etc....

It seems that our feathered breathren have forgotten us lately in there benefit discussions and the use of the J/S....I am concerned that our already erroded ability to sit up front is eventually going to be lost forever...except for FAM rides...

I am not trying to start any hate mail here, I am however trying to make sure that the companies and pilots remember us in future talks with management.

Though I am not planning on commuting anymore in my aviation career, there are those dispatchers that still must do so, and it really comes in handy when you just got to get somewhere in a hurry.....

Not an easy answer, I know....but something else to talk about here.

Around here, "pass riding" has always been non-reving via ID90 type passes. Blue card, write-your-own, or whatever the airline happens to call it, etc. Wear whatever, drink-it-up type of flights.

Jumpseating has remained pilot/dispatcher-only travel in either the cockpit or cabin.

I think it would be neat to have a Dispatchers jumpseat Matrix whereby the J/S coordinators would keep this person updated as to each airlines policies and other important information, i.e.CASS member or not....

It would take alot of time to make it accurate, but it ould be nice to have a single POC web site to refer to....something secured obviously...

AA.....ugh....

Even before CASS.....AA did not allow any Dispatchers from any airline to JS except for AA DX on their route check......

skynatzies for a reason....

We (Ryan Intl) are a non-CASS carrier for the time being. We still accept just about any 121 carrier pilot or dispatcher for any available cabin seat.

FYI, we currently operate OAK to HNL/OGG/LIH and PVR/SJD. DFW to CUN. Numerous casino charters to ACY. Our seasonal runs out of ORD/MKE/DTW/MSP to Mexico and the Carribean will crank up in Nov.

For loads/listing or to just inquire about specific trips call dispatch @ (316)293-1491.

PDX and SEA, huh? Interesting. I hadn't heard that. We already fly for SunTrips out of OAK, so it really doesn't surprise me too much. Curious to see if this is an additional 757 or a current one. Would you mind posting a link to the story?

props, no...yes...no...sort of, etc. When Emery went T.U. a couple of years ago and we parked 12 a/c and furloughed pilots we were put on a pay freeze. Depending upon whether you were promoted up the chain you were stuck at the level at which you previously were. For some it was upwards of 4 years. Within the next couple of weeks it looks like we'll vote in TWU for representation. I'm guessing it will be unanimous. That alone will, at very least, establish a pay scale that we've lacked for the 7 years that I've been here.

Holly Crap SKC..7 years and no pay increase? you have the patience of a saint!

I hope they make it up to you guys/Gals...I have seen alot of former Ryan folks in my interview circles...I guess they could not stomack the wait...good for you..

Whoa, I'm not THAT patient. I've been here 7 years, the pay freeze was only for the last 3-4.

J/S mumbo jumbo

It does seem a little hit or miss. I flew Comair the other day and outbound the capt invited me to ride up front and on the way back they said cabin only. Not sure about other FOM's but ours specifically says Cabin only but ultimately.. Capt rules..

Will post our rules and regs after I clarrify a couple of things..

There's many rules out there and it's always changing, and will continue to change. -Bottom line- ... online is easier than offline. Remember your basically hitch-hiking.

Oh, and sometimes a gate agent with a bad attitude can spoil everything. Even with room in the back jumpseating offline they'll bump ya just to avoid a delay. Heck a buddy of mine got denied on his 5hr recurrent training all because of a pilot wearing his uniform to non-rev.

I guess what I'm saying is your screwed if the gate agent doesn't know the rules.

Yeap, they really need a better training program when it come to dispatchers...whe I was with the AL FAmily...(HA) I was told many times by DAL agents that I was not allowed to j/s...a call to the SOC usually fixed it, if there was time..but it usually caused quite a tiff...better to avoid this and just make a comment "Nicely" to the local supervisor so the next time that agent remembers..

Best thing is to catch the Fligh Crew before they get on..they will usualy help you out...As to the FAM ride or recurrent, I did not think they could bump you off since your on a FAA mandated trip, usually you are lised on the release as well as an additional crew member.......but of course nothing trumps the captain......and I would never make any kind of stink with them...just move along with a BIG SMILE....see ya..
