Here is a process we all have come to love, especially since 9-11....
With the Advent of the CASS system and other security measures incorporated as a result of 9-11, there seems to be alot of misuse of the word "jumpseating".
There is "flight deck" jumpseating...the real deal...and there is sitting in the back with the other passengers, for me this means "pass riding"....
It seems there are so many different ways to pass ride and only a few ways to actually occupy the J/S on the flight deck. Is there any standard rules which apply to dispatcher now....If your CASS or not, Seniority with other employees, or other company employees etc....
It seems that our feathered breathren have forgotten us lately in there benefit discussions and the use of the J/S....I am concerned that our already erroded ability to sit up front is eventually going to be lost forever...except for FAM rides...
I am not trying to start any hate mail here, I am however trying to make sure that the companies and pilots remember us in future talks with management.
Though I am not planning on commuting anymore in my aviation career, there are those dispatchers that still must do so, and it really comes in handy when you just got to get somewhere in a hurry.....
Not an easy answer, I know....but something else to talk about here.
