Hey Net jets guys: One of your finest was heard recently using unprofessional radio phraseology not once but six times inbound to a non-towered airport. No one ever answered him but everyone within 100 miles on 122.7 got to listen to his amateur transmissions.

Please read and heed: Any traffic in the area please advise....... ugh

Aim chapter 4-1-9-g1

g. Self-Announce Position and/or Intentions
1. General.Self-announce is a procedure whereby pilots broadcast their position or intended flight activity or ground operation on the designated CTAF. This procedure is used primarily at airports which do not have an FSS on the airport. The self-announce procedure should also be used if a pilot is unable to communicate with the FSS on the designated CTAF. Pilots stating, "Traffic in the area, please advise" is not a recognized Self-Announce Position and/or Intention phrase and should not be used under any condition.

I'll spare you the indignity of sharing the things I've heard coming out of Pinnacle pilots over the years.

The captain I was paired up with a couple of weeks ago kept saying, "any conflicting traffic, please advise." Irritates the hell out of me, too, but it isn't coming from our training department, I assure you.

I use to say it all the time, I was trained that way during my private pilot days. With the aim revision a few years ago I try not to say it anymore, but sometimes it slips out. To be fair I didn't notice the change until it was pointed out to me also, and I review the aim from time to time.

The thing I can't stand is the airline guys changing altitudes using point, i.e. 10 point 5 climbing 12 point 5..... Points are for frequency changes....

It will never change, just irritates me..

The biggest thing that ticks me off is at untowered fields when someone picks up and ifr clearence, and then goes back to the fbo to have a sandwich or something, closing the airport for other ifr aircraft for an hour or so. (I'm assuming the field is ifr or mvfr.) Drives me crazy to sit and circle because some bozo doesn't know to ask for a clearance with a hold for release.

What does AIM stand for?

Ain't In Mybag?

If the company didn't provide it then I don't have it.

Guilty,(but I was not paired with you. That would have been to much fun) and I won't apologize. If the yahoos and transponderless morons stop trying to kill me, I will stop begging for position reports.

Just last week in Bar Harbor, not one but two thought it was safe to land at the same time on the intersecting runway! Land and hold short, got to love getting that call rolling out at a 100kts.

And I quote "Don't worry Netjets, we see you and won't cross your runway!" That was the first and only call we got. I wish I had a picture of our faces.

I say again, any conflicting traffic please speak to me!

You never said or done anything wrong? Wow, I thought there were only 2 Wright Brothers, but sounds like you must the the 3rd one out there then. Listen here Mr. Right....just take your 2 worthless cents and move on. Nobody really cares anyway....

Sooner or later, it's gonna happen! That'll be a blast.

Yeah, like that will happen. :D Besides, you never cared about transponders in the Ultra, right? ;)

I understand; I just think the finite radio time would be better spent announcing MY position than fishing for others who may or may not respond. But hey, that's me. I guess the few near-midairs I had near HPN with our last company have kinda numbed me to it.

I did my radio calls on CTAF in a pirate voice the other day...does the AIM say anything about that??

"YARR TRAFFIC BE WARNED, WE BE ARRIGHT BASE TO BOARD RUNWAY 17"

At the risk of "piling on" on here, I've gotta say one more thing.

I fly out of towered one runway and one parallel taxiway field....for all of the complaining I hear about student pilots and their problems with basic airmanship and radio calls, I gotta say that I've heard far worse from some of the corporate guys that come into our field.

I wish I had a dollar for every corporate/fractional pilot that asked for progressive on this field.

One kept trying to relay his fuel order to the tower controllers.

This seems to be happening more often than not...so I gotta wonder; is there a reason for it? Is the workload so high that you guys don't have time to dig out an airport diagram?

EDIT: I do wanna add that the guys that I've met who flying here on these things have all been top notch. We park our Senecas just a few spot down from transient parking and my students (UK and other Europeans) often wander over and bug the pilots during pre-flights, etc., and each and every one of these folks have been very gracious and willing to let these students even enter the aircraft, so I'm not trying to completely dig on the corporate/fractional crowd.
