Oddly enough this works. My wife and I were getting on the average 7 calls a day from telemarketers. We signed up for this 2 weeks ago and haven't had one since. There is a God!!

Telemarketers

I hate them with a passion!! Somehow, telemarketers think my phone is a public telephone. And you thought I hate P-F-T? :)

A number of states have established state "Do Not Call" lists, such as Colorado. You can sign up for your state list and the federal list. We signed up for the Colorado "Do Not Call" list shortly after it came out last year, and our phone has mostly been silent - something like how it was when I was looking for commuter jobs twelve years ago.

Good post, Mr. 1900.

I think the telemarketers aren't blocked until Oct 1; at least that's when they can get fined for calling you.
Between telemarketers and crew scheduling, I've learned that phones are only good for evil.

A year ago I bought a "phone zapper" at Radio Shack, after a few months the calls were down to 1-2 a month.

Do not call lists

I signed up for the state "do not call list" in Minnesota last year.
When the federal sign up for such a list was available, our local news media outlets in MSP stated that you need not sign up for the federal program if you were on the state list, as that would be done automatically for you, by the state. I was registered with Minnesota, but knowing how easy the government can screw things up, I signed up on-line with the feds anyway.

Telemarketers must comply by Oct. 1st of this year, but the phone at my house gets very few calls now, but it has not yet been 100% freed up. The really annoying ones I still get, are not even from a live person I could scream at, but are recorded sales pitches with the old menu of selections on your touch tone phone you can "press". I just hang up without a word now, but come October, I'll be following up with violators, in hopes of getting these obnoxious people out of my life, with big fines, and perhaps some cash to me for my trouble.

Did you notice, that our lawmakers conveniently made an exception to the law? Political fund raisers, and campaign workers soliciting your vote for their particular candidate are not covered by the law. What hypocrisy!

My wife and I sued a telemarketer here in Indiana a few years ago - I was a college prelaw major who knew how to write and do some legal research.

We sued them under the TCPA (telephone consumers protection act). They tried to move the case to Indianapolis (we're up by South Bend), and the judge told them to take a flying leap...

After that they settled, the $$ we got was nice, and we have never heard from them again...

And we had no attorneys fees ;)

I know you can register your home phones, but has anyone had to register their cell phones? I've gotten only one sales call on my phone in 3 yrs.

Is there something special about cell phones that telemarketers are not allowed to call?

REGISTRATION INSTRUCTIONS
To register, enter up to three phone numbers and your email address and click Submit. For each phone number, enter the area code in the box on the left and the rest of the number in the box on the right. Enter your email address where indicated. Use the Tab key or your mouse to move from box to box.

The above was copied and pasted off the national do not call list registration instructions. I see nothing that would make a cell phone number unique. The only restriction that I see, is that there is a limit of three phone numbers per e-mail address.

Ya, but you have to pay to have caller ID every month, plus the cost of the equipment. I'm to much of a cheap skate, plus, I'd have to get off the couch to go look at the caller ID, and I'm too lazy to do that;)

Well if you weren't so slim with the cash they actually make phones with built in caller ID...WIRELESS ones believe it or not! ;)

The reason cell phones don't get solictations is b/c it is illegal for an auto-dialer system to call any registered cell phone #.

If only crew tracking would get with the program and stop calling me from blocked caller ID #'s everything would be peaches and cream. I hate having to miss some calls just b/c I refuse to answer blocked ID's, but then have to call my voicemail to see who I missed.

-Boo!

Check your state's no-call list. At least in Colorado, you can register cell phones.

I've had a cell phone for nearly five years and I've never received a telemarketer call.
