It really does look like the old Air Canada paint.

Why wouldn't they just paint a real airplane? Why waste time building a model to test in a wind tunnel? Next question...

I'm guessing the first plane to be painted will be whatever airplane is next in line for the paint shop. Why pull a 777 out of service when it's not necessary just for marketing? Besides, they don't have that many 777's to spare. TC

I think you missed my point RE the 777. I was saying if you are going to paint a 767 there are a bunch of those at Delta so find one that needs paint and launch your "coming out" party with that. If you are going to do PR work with a model mockup why make a model of the 767. Why not show the new paint on a model of a 777?

Ugh - Delta must have gotten their hands on the same ugly stick Air Canada used to beat their airplanes with. And I thought the "Leo" scheme was ugly! The Habitat and Pink Planes look pretty good, though.

So if they can't work with that, or better yet just make a few minor updates to the old "Widget" paint scheme, how about the following:

Enlarge one of the following profile drawings of the 767 and place a link on the DeltaNet site where it can be downloaded and printed:

http://www.boeing.com/commercial/767family/pf/pf_exterior_er.html

Have any interested employees print a copy and give it to their kids with red and blue crayons and the following conditions:

There must be a widget on the tail.

The widget must be in the original blue and red.

"Delta" must be printed somewhere on the aircraft.

The results will probably be far better than anything they've come up with since the "Widget" scheme. Although the "Ron" scheme was pretty popular with the Broncos fans.....

Good Lord that thing is UGLY!! I sure hope it is a mistake!!!:puke: They need to go back to the ole Black Nose and Widget paint scheme. Stop with the rest of this crap!

Maybe I will get out of flying and open my OWN paint shop on the side. Lord knows it would have "JOB SECURITY!!":laugh:

Is the airplane smiling? That has got to be the ugliest paintscheme I have ever seen. Alright, that might be a bit too much, but holy CRAP!

I like the wavy gravy better than the Air Canadelta scheme...

Wavy gravy? Do you mean the current paint scheme, which is known as the "gay pride flag" paint scheme? Any thing would be better than what they have now!

Wow, almost two whole pages on a thread about Delta and still no Genereal. Bet if this had to do with USAirways or Dougie Parker he'd already have ten posts. Or if the paint scheme was alittle better looking maybe...:D

Hmmm,

Certainly looks like it's pointing Northwest. It should be an easy fix to slap a "<N" when the merger comes around. It will give a new meaning to the word "Orientation".

Nu

PS "GONNNGGGG"

I kind of like the new design. I think they were going for something clean and sophisticated like the BA livery of the 80s. Simple and not too trendy like a classic tuxedo that would stand the test of time. It matches the new uniforms well. I do hope they do change the funky cutoff widget to the design this guy came up with. Looks much better to me.

KLM is always very recognizable:

Lufthansa is plain but classic lines/color:

If Virgin toned down the red engines this would be nice. I like something other than the standard boring white on the top at least.

Finnair aint bad

Boeings "Dreamliner" paint job can even make a 737 look good! Im sure this scheme would be cost prohibitive for an airline though.

And the winner is......

A model manufacturer who came up with their own paint scheme for $20 bucks!

Every time an airline changes CEOs or goes through a bankruptcy they repaint the airplanes. The idiots that run airlines think that a new livery conveys the message to customers (and employees) that this a new airline and that somehow all the past mistakes are erased. In reality it cost already financially troubled company's millions of dollars and sends the message that the names may have changed but the pea brain management mentality is still the same.

First of all the last TWA paint scheme was the best ever created....

the new Delta doesn't look bad - much better than the current flag motif, but what are they doing spending all this money on paint when they are still in bankruptcy? Shouldn't they be giving that money back to the employees that they stole from?

From the Atlanta Urinal article:

Big jets are flying billboards, so airlines take paint schemes seriously. Different managements also use them to put their stamp on a company or as part of broader "re-brandings."
How does adding yet another new paint scheme to your fleet of aircraft which already lacks any continuity because they are already painted in variety of outdated paint schemes help build your brand?

An example is a Coke can with few exceptions always looks the same regardless of which city or state I happen to be standing it at the time. While I personally hate company behind the can of Coke myself I still recognize the brand a mile away and that is priceless to a company.

Only an airline executive is ignorant enough to believe changing the paint scheme on the planes after exiting bankruptcy will cause the customer to forget that Delta was almost brought to extinction from decades of mismanaged and fiscal irresponsibility.

The typical customer bases his travel itinerary around the best available price not what color the stupid planes are and as a small business owner my first priority is to find out who flies to the destination then what it will cost me. Exterior appearance of the plane doesn't even make the list.
