Once the SLI is done there will undoubtedly be another memo which will begin with, " Do to the state of the economy and the global recession...." Bye bye to a whole bunch of domestic narrow body aircraft, pullback of international growth and furloughs. And you guys will act surprised.

Ya think so? DUE tell us more about what your crystal ball says about our future...

How many cutbacks will there be at Skywest? You're already way fat on pilots, right?. Will Skw have to furlough for the first time? How is Skw Midwest flying doing? How is UAL flying doing? What's DAL's next move to get rid of RJ's, will it include 50 seaters at Skw? Please DUE tell us...

I'd worry about the future of your company before you comment about the future of ours.

FWIW, Bastian said during the pilot meeting in MSP that they days of "fee for departure" are over. Going forward, the contracts will be for a certain amount per passenger, and it would be up to the carrier to make money. Fuel collars for the regional partners are completely out of the question. It murdered the bottom line during the run up, and they won't make that mistake again.

The concept of "franchise fees" (where a lift provider has to pay to carry the code) was not out of the question.

Nu

The sad part is you are encouraging that the Fee-Per-Departure carriers purchases unlimited 76 seat Q400s and operate them on all the DC9 routes. Also you are encouraging the FPD to buy lots of aircraft so that they can enjoy pricing power when it comes to fuel. Then when all the FPD have to raise there bids to do the work that you agreed to be outsourced it will hurt Delta’s bottom line. It is truly amazing that once again an airline allowed more out sourcing for bigger pay raises. God willing they will not exploit the short sightedness. When a CFO sees that he can use a 76 seat aircraft unlimitedly on many jet routes for much less expense the pain will be felt by all. We all agree the more you let out sourced the less likely you are to ever get it back. We will all have to keep our mouths shut when ramp tower tells us to park in the pad while we have to wait for the Q400 to push off our gate.

Protect ALL FLYING JOBS big and small!

It is great to actually be working for an airline that wants to actually be a WORLD CLASS airline.
Wants to be...being the key word! Now if they can get the pax experience "World Class" it would be good for everyone.

The small caveat that you miss is that DAL management will not pay the lease rates for the larger jets if they do not want them on a route. It does not matter whether it is fee for departure or not.

Absolutely correct, why do you think no one else is flying in these markets. There is no traffic to support this type of flying and the economy overseas is collapsing. The oil market in Africa and political unrest makes these destinations uneeded.

Actually the loads are strong and the tickets are very expensive too. Delta is making a ton of money in Africa.

EL10 - I couldn't have said it better myself. I asked the question on another thread... why the free for all with the large t-props? Why is it that all mainline cares about are RJs? I guess they're all about saving CERTAIN jobs from erosion, not all.

"We will all have to keep our mouths shut when ramp tower tells us to park in the pad while we have to wait for the Q400 to push off our gate."

You will learn to swallow....We do that in LAX, OAK, SFO, SMF and used to in RNO and BOI but we gave those up completely
