The servicemembers will get reimbursed. It will cost them nothing. Delta has not made any money off the "backs of our heros". Paying misc expenses and being reimbursed later has always been a fact of life for servicemembers when traveling. It will never change.

Why shouldn't the government pay the cost of the service provided to them? You going to take a pay cut so the government can get free service?

This whole thing is ridiculous and just another example of the out of control media sensationalizing everything for a headline.

Yeah you get reimbursed, maybe in three months, after you file your travel claim. The servicemember still has to put the money up front. Why doesn't Delta put up the money upfront and file a claim with the government? And don't you think the baggage fees are a little excessive anyway?

My solution is the government suddenly decides it needs all of Delta's aircraft for CRAF duty. They can park a lot of C-17's and run Delta's planes for much cheaper. Think of how many wounded soldiers and gun cases you could put in a 777, unencumbered with first class seats.

Just like WW2 when the airlines painted their planes OD green and made militarty transport the priority. Lets people know their is still a war on, or two, or three...no wait its four.

This really spins me up quick....

I really take most criticisms of my company as a joke.....we do some effed up stuff but one thing that really chaps my A$$ about this is how little credit WE DO GET FOR BENDING OVER BACKWARDS for our military servicemen and women.

We let them board first, SIT IN FIRST (Does SWA do that GUP?), use the medallion lines for security, free skyclub entry amongst other things. We fly them all over the world on military charters and CRAF flights. I have seen our Flight Attendants decorate the plane and bake cookies and brownies for our troops who are 12 hours out of an FOB as a thank you. I saw one girl bring a BOX of cards from her child's 4th grade class thanking the troops....

I have stood in the snow while we provided an honor guard for remains returning home. I have told the passengers to remain seated so that he could deplane first. ....

This is just some of the things Delta people do, not because we want a pat on the back, just so we can honor those who put it on the line for our country.

What's great is all the SWA types chiming in.....as if you wear a Flag tie and you are the ultimate Patriot. Unless we invade Texas, SWA won't be taking our troops to or from the battlefield, so throttle back and tell your marketing department to quit making this go viral because you should worry about keeping your planes intact and flying rather than piling on one STUPID gate agent.....

Rant over.....

That is not the issue. You guys do that stuff on your own, its your company policy that is the problem. Give the employee some leeway on baggage charges, or make no limits on transport of military baggage.

Well Bill, Delta may or may not do what you say...but we know for sure they will take any opportunity to screw a poor enlisted kid. That is a fact. You guys should be ashamed of yourselves. What other "good deals" do you have for military people? Maybe Delta could spit on their face as they walk on the jet. But then again, that's pretty much what Delta does already.

PR disaster? Please. The general public is so retarded and has such a short memory they will be flying Delta if the fare is 50 cents cheaper and has a 8 hour layover. Guaranteed.

Yeah but how many military people when they call SATO to make travel arrangements are going to ask not to be put on Delta.

Tanker.....go back to giving out your free BJs on South Beach so you can get your dignity back...

Shame on me? Whatever....

Agreed.....

There needs to be a limit though.....PFC Hardcharger could bring a pallet for free?

Good point Bill. The PFC is only willing to die for you. You guys definitallty should screw him on the bags. He deserves it. Make sure you guys spit in his face and call him a baby killer before you rape him on the bags.

Kinda reminds me of Obama's remark about having Guard/Reservists' private insurance pay for injuries incurred while on military duty.
Kinda reminds of the Bush admin's remark about having a short little war in which we'd be hailed as liberators and be outta there in six months. Two years later the VA that he was responsible for couldn't care for our own troops he'd put harm's in way.

Interesting antidotal sidebar: Our rotator was over an hour late into BWI from Kuwait. SWA had an employee escort a connecting serviceman.

Nice to know and thanks for your service. We just flew some Wounded Warriors to Vegas recently. Really put a lump in your throat. If it wasn't for you guys..we wouldn't be doing this.

This is overblown. The servicemen will be rembursed when they file their travel claims. Servicemen typically pay out of their pockets for misc. items when traveling and are rembursed later. So in the long run, Delta wasn't charging the Soldiers, they were charging the government. The government collects enough taxes from the airlines and airline tickets that I have no problem with the government paying for the cost of the service they are purchasing.

Show me where the government has a reimbursement program for airlines (Delta) making a profit off of a soldiers luggage to be repaid to the soldier.

So, If you rape someone and then say you are sorry afterwards, is it OK?
