Delta Raises Fares!!!!!!

Wow!!!!!! Maybe managment is finally getting it right....Long time in coming I hope that it wasn't too late.

Fine then. Let the LCCs cancel the hundreds of 737/A320 class aircraft they have on order, with the objective of - RAISING FARES.

Yeah you're right. It's simpler to cut pilot salaries in half and charge for peanuts, coke, window seats, aisle seats, etc...

Sadly, you're correct. The problem isn't that its difficult to raise fares, the problem is that in certain situations, its impossible. Not necessarily impossible to raise fares, but impossible to increase revenues by raising them. Its no coincidence that Delta raised fares within a few days of Southwest doing it. In such an elastic demand environment, raising the fares means a drastic loss in passengers. Now that the lowest (Southwest) has raised their fares, others can raise them as well without the loss in passengers. Its all dependent on other airlines, and if one airline doesn't raise them in a certain market, the whole thing collapses. Its been tried so many times before, but this is the first time Southwest has initiated the hike. With Airways and Independence now not willing to sell tickets for $25 just for the cashflow, this has a very good chance of sticking.

Man, Delta was so close to driving a few airlines out fo business too...if they could have just kept the fares at rock bottom for say another 6 month they might have been the only ones standing. Oh, I forgot, that was managements plan for the last 5 years.
