Here is a factoid for you medflyer. Since so many older guys have retired at delta recently, there are less than 600 pilots over the age of 50 at Delta now. A lot of sh%t has happened to those guys but there must be some fairly young guys/gals who are flying bigger equipment and perhaps international as well, that a year or so ago was only a far off goal for them.
As for the FA's being old, they are old everywhere unless you are on one of the LCC. BTW there are some real oldies over at SWA as well, so no one has escaped these facts of life. When you start paying FA's 35 to 45 grand a year (after fifteen+ years),the job starts looking good compared to some of the other options out there.

The average age of a Delta FA and a Delta pilot are about the same. The age distributions are a bit different with the pilots being primarily concentrated between 40 and 55 while the FA's are more spread out between 30 and 65.
There are some FA's who should retire, but the same can be said for some DL captains.
