General Lee said:Dave,
Most of our stews are great, but some need to go. There should be a retirement age or a physical test to determine if they are safe to evacuate a full airplane when things go wrong. I flew with one hired in 1958, and I thought she needed a wheelchair herself. That really isn't safe.

If we require a physical test for the FAs, let’s also add a physical strength, agility and stamina component to the Class I medical certificate standards so that our pilots have the opportunity to demonstrate their ability to deal with the increased physical demands often required during emergencies.
A timed three mile run and a basic PT test every six months would be great. Nothing harder than a high school ROTC program. I bet that will thin out some of the senior numbers real quick and bring back some furloughs.
At the very least, let’s implement these new Class I standards for all the civilian trained pilots.

Why are you disagreeing with this point? I really want to know. Is it because you are married or related to one? Seriously - why do you disagree with this when EVERYONE knows that a high percentage of Delta FAs are seriously old, overweight, and not phyiscally fit enough to help passengers in an emergency? It's a FACT. Either you are not a pilot or you are married to one of these old bags... Strange that you would disagree.
MedFlyer said:I think the point you are missing is that if you are going to bag on the FA's for being old, you might as well bag on the pilots too. The average age of a Delta FA and a Delta pilot are about the same. The age distributions are a bit different with the pilots being primarily concentrated between 40 and 55 while the FA's are more spread out between 30 and 65.
There are some FA's who should retire, but the same can be said for some DL captains.
