Delta pilots, whats up with this?

Ok, so I'm sittin in ATL on a mx delayed flight and while we're at the gate, I get up to use the lav and while I'm waiting the flight attendant brings up their reduced rest issue. She mentions that they can be reduced to 8.5 hrs. I was curious as to whether or not their rest requirements were the same as the pilots, so I say, "Are your duty time limits the same as the flight crew?" And she responds,"I am flight crew." I always thought there was a difference between "flight crew" and "in-flight crew". Apparently not in this case though. Really surprised me. Do yall refer to the entire crew as "flight crew" at Delta? I'd hate to inadvertently offend.
 
As found in FAR Part 1 DEFINITIONS AND ABBREVIATIONS Sec. 1.1

Flightcrew member means a pilot, flight engineer, or flight navigator assigned to duty in an aircraft during flight time.

Crewmember means a person assigned to perform duty in an aircraft during flight time.

Tell her to get off her high horse. And I'd hate to inadvertently inform.

Flight crew, yeah all the airborne guys and gals according to some defs.

Or cockpit crew and cabin crew.

Or in-flight, or crew, or whatever.

Half or these guys or gals in the back are confused about basic stuff in the first place..Take the statement with a grain of salt....:D

I think everyone is flight crew. If you know a flight attendant, she (or he) has their name in the FAA Airman Registry.

And approximately 1/3 in the cockpit are confused by the basic stuff as well.
 
FA's are flight crew. They have different crew rest rules that cockpit flight crew. You can request to have your F/A's put on cockpit crew rest requirements for ease of scheduling as we do in the charter business.

“How does that online Viagra ordering work anyway?”
“Do you prefer the generic or Metamucil brand fiber capsules?”


I guess the seniority system is fine for the pilots but not for the rest of the employees.

Next time just smack her on the ass and say:

"Hey sugar britches, why don't you plant your fat ass in row 35, put your swollen cankles up and work on a crossword. If I have any more questions for the 'flight crew', I'll come get you."
 
True they are not defined by part one, however they have explicit training and qualification requirements and are addressed as essential crew with passengers. In addition, know they have to have a FAA ID, like a pilot's license.

Most of our stews are great, but some need to go. There should be a retirement age or a physical test to determine if they are safe to evacuate a full airplane when things go wrong. I flew with one hired in 1958, and I thought she needed a wheelchair herself. That really isn't safe.

It's also not a License, just a Certificate of Proficiency.

C. Distinction. The Act distinguishes between this certificate and an airman’s certificate. This certificate is not an airman’s certificate as specified in Title 49 of the United States Code (49 U.S.C.), section 44703; it is a separate kind of certificate as specified in 49 U.S.C., section 44728.

d. FAA Awards a Certificate of Demonstrated Proficiency. Concurrent with the notification in paragraph 5c, the FAA awards a certificate of demonstrated proficiency. Each certificate is effective immediately.
