Float and Init,

I am former NW and don't understand the walk around thing. As an FO I always do the walk around, its my job. In 13 yrs as an FO I think I had 1 or 2 capts do it. No big deal and I never complained, I do agree with changing up the rotation as far as outbound legs. As a capt. I always offered the FO the choice, 1st or 2nd. It went about 50/50. If they chose the outbound we did 2 legs each so both got an outbound and inbound. If they chose to go 2nd I took all the outbounds. Snooze you lose. I think you will find very few DN capts doing walk arounds. Personally every airline I have flown on it seems the FO does the walk around. I just don't see the big deal.

As FO, I still fully plan on doing the walkaround before each flight- especially when it's not warm and sunny outside. :)

With our procedures though, if you have a 45 minute hub turn with a plane swap before a transcon, it sure helps if the CA does the walk around if the FO is PF.

The CA has more stripes and if they don't want to do them, they earned the right not to.

P.S.- For those slow learners out there "code enforcement" people enforce local ordinances. I strongly suspect there may have been one or two concerning people driving on a freaking runway. Probably even a code in there somewhere about running over people with your damn plane.

Judging from your envious diatribe, you'd fit in well with this exclusive group of power-deprived homebodies.

Yeah-

Let's see. I usually drive my car all over the airport, then get out and jump in my big-ass plane and try to run over the cops.....

-Pretty standard stuff... What are we gonna do for fun after lunch?
Prop strike right engine $50,000

Prop strike left engine $50,000

Gear collapse and fuselage damage with wreckage on top of Cop car $300,000

Having your insurance denied because it was an intentional act, priceless... .

Life's full of surprises, like people believing that you'd purposely wreck your antique classic airplane that is the source of revenue of our business to run down a $15 an hour code weenie. For everything else there's Mastercard.

Will the plane be for sale?

I love how he sliced through the corn or wheat or whatever that crop was right before touchdown. Seriously though, I wanna go get some lessons from this guy in that DC-3 now. How much you reckon that runs ya?
