I don't think you should or have a degree to be a pilot. I don't have one now and probably won't get one if ROTC doesn't work out. As a CFI I make about 14,000 per year. Not a lot but when I think about Capt regional pay being around 50,000 I get excited. You can easily rent a big apartment with that kind of cash plus have money left over for one of those new mustangs and a chick friend. The pay is not bad and a degree shouldn't be required. Going to school sucks anyway, I can't stand it.
I cant even fathom 100K. Holy cow what I could do with that. Honestly though, I don't expect that kind of return from what I have done. 100K is a lot of money for being a busdriver in the sky, especially with no degree. I'm happy with whatever the industry will pay !!!They then decide to follow their dream of flying "big iron." They take another paycut ($26K at UPS to start, maybe $40K at AT ...) Some get furloughed for 5 years (thousands after 9-11 actually.) They make finally make $100K after 3-5 years at a major.

I know exactly what it is like to work 14 hrs a day. Prior to instructing I worked at Firestone changing tires. Talk about hard dude. Try doing 85 cars in one shift!When you go on a trip, your life comes to a halt while you work 14 hour ays to get 4 to 6 hours of pay with a little time eating in the crew room, or catching a power nap in row 9 between flights. Then short overnights at the Holliday Inn Express and eating two or three fast food meals a day. Then after 4 days on the road, maybe two days off to see you significant other, wash clothes rest up for the next BIG adventure.
You're not flying in the terminal though. I like walking around terminals. It's cool to see planes push back and watch the flight crews in their uniforms.Sure, it's a great job and I wouldn't do anything else, but I don't know too many professions where you go to work for 14 hours an get paid for only 4 hours.
