It has been 14 years since I have applied anywhere. Just curious if you could from SWA Capt to Delta FO and have a good career. I have 20 years left.

I would say YES. With future retirements and huge profits due to lower oil, I'd say you'd do well. And not just at DL, but any of the big 3. Good luck.

Bye Bye---General Lee

Yes, if your senior to me that would be an excellent idea. Because we all know that basing your decisions on what is happening right this second is the best way to go. Never mind the last 15 years of bad management or furloughs or across the board concessions. Lets just look at right now a company that has come out of bankruptcy shedding all its massive debt and not having to pay its creditors. Low oil prices, high baggage fees. Because this is how it will be forever and ever.

Nooooo........you'll wake up the gimp who's on a march to 30K.

Ed: too late. I see it has already posted.

I say go for it

You will have a chance to fly with GL. You 2 can fly one of the awesome charters , flying unicorns up to the North Pole to see Santa .

I'm thinking about doing it too. I really miss commuting to ATL. Though maybe I'll get lucky and be based in JFK. I hear no one bitches about anything at delta. The union is perfect. Management is perfect and everyone there has loved every paint job the airline has used since 9/11. Quit and sell grass. You know, the green kind.

The fact that this question is being asked not by a SWA F/O, but a Captain, is what I find to be most telling. Things have changed for the worse at SWA, and I don't blame any pilot at this Airline for exploring all of their options. I've thought about leaving for at least the last 5-6 years myself. Good luck Bake with whatever decision you make. I know it's never easy.

Wow!

Hook in water and fish on!

The LUV arrogance never dissapoints.

You mean to say, that working or flying for the LUV company SWA isn't all that its cracked up to be. Say it isn't so Charlie Brown...say it isn't so!!??

Is it true a recent SWA new hire class had a bunch of no-shows ? Or is that just some unsubstantiated internet forum, urban legend ?

I think it's very likely you could have a decent career. If you're thinking about doing it though, you better get on the stick. The class starting today has 75 new hires in it. Throw in the app, see what happens, if you get the offer then you've got a decision to make - until then it's an academic exercise.

For what it's worth, everyone I've flown with has been great, no kidding. I've met a couple Martians along the way, but haven't worked with them. Most folks seem content right now, of course there's a few who have trouble letting go of ancient history. I don't feel the comraderie with crews like I did at my previous regional, but that's alright - it's probably because we're not in a prison camp anymore. You're treated as a pro - you come in and do your thing, do home, and money magically shows up twice a month.

No guarantees expressed or implied.

I heard that too. It is believable in this industry landscape. With everyone hiring why would one pay for a type rating to be a permafo?

That higher power racket and paying for types has to stop.

Bake,

You face a tough decision. You have invested a lot of time at SWA to start over at DAL. You make good money and I am sure you have good standing in seniority to protect you from furlough if everything goes to SH!t. If I were you I would stay. Good luck on what you do decide.

Hmmmmm?

Is he a SWA capt now or SWA capt in January 2015? Wink wink. It's hard to imagine the current SWA guy, even the junior Capt would say that after being here for that long.

I'm staying. 7th year and as happy as I was when I got hired.

Wow, the gullibility test. You would think this forum would produce at least a majority that could pass it. So sad, so sad. :bawling:

If he actually is a Capt hes prob banking 230K year min, not including 401K match and profit sharing, more like 250K with the ability to hit 300K if he puffs. He can bid his line and trade every trip or move most trips to another day. He can pu trips or try and drop his trips. If he has a 7 day vacation it'll prob give him 14 days off. If he's reserves, bummer...... Other than that I can assure you nobody will miss him.

Who does this Capt. work for?

I want to work there! Well, except for the lousy 14 day from a weeks vacation part!

He's telling you the truth about the left seat at SWA. One week vacation will give you 21 days off in a row (+4 more days off). If you want to hit 300K, that person will have to work a little during that 21 days off stretch. That's the thing about SWA. You can make more money if you want, and you can work as little as you want and accept lower income. I have less than 7 days vacation this month and I only have to work a 3 day. When you do that, your pay suffers but I can always pick up if I choose to. I'm sure it's similar at other places.

Personally, I have never come across anyone, definitely not a Captain who spoke about leaving SWA for others. Im sure they're out there, but I never hear about them.

If they are considering leaving my bet would be that they are a habitual dumb ass that has finally gotten their ass in a crack that they don't think they can get out of. Last straw kind of thing and they think they are on the verge of getting fired. Otherwise, no Captain would leave willingly. It pays to damn much and is a good deal to boot.

I disagree. I think that there are many throughout the seniority list that feel the same way Bake does. It doesn't mean that he is leaving, or that he is about to be fired. It just means that WN isn't the same Airline that it was 14 years ago when he was hired. It's never a bad thing to explore all of your options in this constantly changing industry, even if you decide to remain at your current Airline.

I still think it's a bait or an unhappy transition pilot.

Any SWA person knows that guys with employee nmbers 53000 to 58000, they are not leaving for another carrier to get paid 60000.

It's a big joke but if you all want to discuss it more, please go ahead. If it IS true and this 55000 number Capt. quits, who's loss is it? Not mine.

.

Good point. Evidently, it was Bake's point too. I figured this thread would make some people's head explode, like the "When Mars attacks" movie and already a few brains are swelling.

Yeah, but just to no show!? Maybe a one off. I'd at least show a little gratitude, even if it's not someone's first choic,e SWA is a quality outfit - and they threw that person a bone.

Really?

Oh, that's a lot better than 14!

If you want to hit 300K, that person will have to work a little during that 21 days off stretch.

Except you can't work during the 7 vacation days or during the days of overlap trips pulled.

That's the thing about SWA. You can make more money if you want, and you can work as little as you want and accept lower income.

Except that it's not as easy as that anymore.

Pick up what? There's NOTHING in TTGA or ELITT most of the month on the Capts side in MCO.

Me either......

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that Bake is pulling some legs.....
