Delta Builds On Successful Los Angeles Expansion With 21 New Daily Flights to Nine Cities
Wednesday May 9, 8:30 am ET
Newest routes enhance connecting opportunities between Mexico, Central America and cities throughout the West
LOS ANGELES, May 9, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Delta Air Lines (NYSE:DAL - News) will accelerate the pace of its expansion at Los Angeles International Airport with the addition of 21 new daily flights to nine cities spanning from Canada to Colorado, effective July 1. With the expansion, Delta will offer customers flying to, from or through Los Angeles 100 peak-day departures to 48 nonstop destinations -- an increase of nearly 105 percent from the same time last year.

The expansion accelerates Delta's efforts to transform Los Angeles into a leading gateway for travel between the West Coast and Mexico and Central America. With the July schedule, Delta plans to offer Los Angeles customers flights to 17 destinations in Mexico and Central America and nonstop service to leading West Coast business markets such as San Francisco, Sacramento, San Jose and Vancouver.

``Based on our success to date, Delta is eager to introduce additional growth for customers in Los Angeles this summer,'' said Glen Hauenstein, Delta's executive vice president -- Network Planning and Revenue Management. ``In the last year Delta has added more than 55 flights to 34 destinations from Los Angeles to reach a growing customer base that is hungry for additional competition. Our newest markets will improve connections between destinations across Mexico and Central America with communities throughout the West with a growing demand for travel.''
Delta Connection carrier ExpressJet Airlines will operate the new routes using 50-passenger Embraer 145 regional jets with upgraded in-flight entertainment with more than 100 channels of free XM Satellite Radio and redesigned, memory foam leather seating with no middle seats. The new flights will be timed to conveniently connect customers to existing Delta and Delta Connection flights at the L.A. gateway, including dozens of flights to Mexico; transcontinental service to New York, Boston, Florida and Atlanta; and nonstop service to Hawaii, Alaska, Canada and points throughout the West. Delta's new nonstop service from Los Angeles is scheduled as follows:

Something else about the deal...

"ExpressJet said it will be responsible for pricing and revenue management on the flights and maintenance of the planes. The arrangement limits Delta's risks on the new routes."

That is good.

So if we're pulling a/c from branded, does that mean we are going to not offer fly some of those branded routes?

From Branded? Something about one in the hand vs. two in the bush or some such...

I'm sure Delta and the passengers will be pleased with the product; I just hope the routes are successful!

They will eventually feed some pretty large INTL expansion at LAX. We are also using the ERJs to occupy the gates so we don't lose them while we source more planes to fly new mainline service. The Mexico service was pretty successful this Spring, so we'll see about the new service.

here is the bottom line on this. DAL/or your mgmt used ASA till XJT had the planes available for LAX. This was decided on last year and they put yall out there until we were available. I know it sucks and it sucks to have a mgmt team that plays yall back and forth. On a positive note at least no ones job at ASA is on the line because of this whole thing and we didn't underbid yall by having lower pay scales/work rules. Don't you get a pay raise based on DAL connection rates? If so that should be another bonus for you. Honestly most of us here at XJT would have much rather kept it a happy family with Just CAL and XJT but we have now been thrown into the Shark infested waters with all the other Regionals. I really hope the best for you guys at ASA.

C'mon General....slam those RJ pilots!!!!

Now's your chance!!!

someone PLEASE lift the needle off this broken record!!!

MORE RJS is NEVER a good thing!!! BRING ON the HEAVY IRON no more pencil jets

Yeah, run the 737/757/767/777 to Reno, MZT, TRC, ZAC, ZLO, ZCL, SMF, TIJ, MFE, ect.

See how long DAL stays out ok BK like that.

I'm not keen on more RJ's either, but do you have a more viable solution for these routes?

End of the year this is where 9E's CRJ 900's will fit in. They are going to handle the larger Mexico, Central America flights. They've been equipped for foreign airsspace (HF, etc.)

Unfortunately Delta likes this record! What.....9 connection carriers? NOT GOOD!

Uhhh, I wasnt talking about DELTA, but your comments....
