Delta Cancels 250 Flights to Northeast
ATLANTA (AP) -- Delta Air Lines has canceled about 250 flights to the Northeast as a precaution because of a storm that is expected to dump more than a foot of snow in the area.
Delta spokeswoman Gina Laughlin said the carrier decided Thursday to cancel the flights Friday in an area that stretches from Washington to Boston. She said the heaviest concentration is in the New York area at JFK and LaGuardia airports and at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey.
She said making the decision a day ahead allows the airline to contact customers and accommodate changes in travel.
She said canceling the flights also allows Delta to keep planes out of airports where bad weather is expected so the planes don't get bogged down in de-icing delays and stranded customers.
Meanwhile, JetBlue canceled 215 flights Friday because of the winter storm. The airline is attempting to avoid the days of cancellations and criticism that followed a storm last month.
