Customs in South Texas

You can't go nonstop to Florida? Is an overflight permit required? Assuming you have the range to do so.
 
I had a bad experience in HOU. Customs lost our paperwork and harassed us for landing w/o proper notification. I got a warning letter (later rescinded). Also you must clear at customs and repo to a FBO.
 
HOU blows. Small Customs ramp also.

I have cleared in ALL Texas cities. BRO and MFE are probably the easiest and most pilot friendly. BRO in and out is faster than MFE tho.
 
30 degree rule...

If you're returning from below 30 degrees lat you don't need an overflight permit to goe straight to FLA if you have the range. I've cleared at almost all of the AOEs in the southern U.S. and they are all hit or miss depending on a lot of variables. So good luck.
