The ERJ Engines are weak - they were built to go on a target drone. I think the ERJ is a much easer / simpler airplane to learn than the CRJ. Its a great starter jet, the universal 1K FMS is junk (the Honneywell is great). The ERJ type rating is probably better to have, because of the Legacy. I don't know of a corporate version on the CL-65. (Global and Challanger are nothing like the CRJ)
My understanding the EMB wanted the GE engine - but Canadair had already had options on all of them for the next 3 or 4 years. that's why the 145 has the Rolls. At the end of the day the CRJ will go higher, further, and carry more.
