Live coverage of Drunk Driving er........Flying case. Seems their defense is that they claim they were not operating the jet.

Interesting.

Yea right ...I believe the reg sez "under its own power for the purpose of flight" ...now if they were still attached to the tug a good lawyer and a dumb jury might work.

They just had Globe Security up on the stand saying they felt like they saved the lives of hundreds of people.

The talking head that they were just interviewing said that she would feel better if all pilots had to take a breathalizer test upon arrival at the airport...

I read somewhere that in Russia pilots had to undergo blood or urine testing every time they showed up at the airport. Seems excessive to me. Besides, we've got the security screeners looking out for the best interest of the traveling public:rolleyes:

YOU haven't been to Russia, have you?

Vodka is a Russian word, you know.

The manager of the check point just testified that he has pre-consieved notions of all pilots going through the check point. They are all "arrogant and cause most of the trouble at the check point"

Published yesterday:

http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/news/world/11705885.htm?source=rss&channel=miamiherald_world

from the article: "Some 85 percent of Russian men drink regularly -- they outnumber female drinkers by 5 to 1 -- and on average they knock back a fifth of a gallon of vodka every other day. And that doesn't include the intake of beer, wine and liqueur."

Yea, I was sitting there trying to stay awake for the opening arguments yesterday. That prosecutor is pretty magnanimous...the whole time she was talking, I was thinking the jury was reaching for their Cherry Vanilla Diet Doctor Peppers and I was thinking of how much I'd need to drink before...where were we? Oh yea, the case...

I don't blame them guys for using the technicallity of the definition, "operation". I don't condone operating aircraft with a BAC higher than FAA or company policy, but I don't condemn them for working the angle either.

Also, is it me or are those chicks on "court tv" the variety that seems like they would be into castration as a hobby. That one lady commentator was making comment about the tavern security videotape and said the pilots were "cowboys" "having a good time laughing it up and touching women".

I'm thinking, if it weren't for the fact that they were within a few hours of flying a jet, aint that what you're supposed to do in a bar? Dang, they are accused of DUI operation of an airliner, not with being gay.

Not that it's legit to fly drunk, but honestly...Alot of guys could show up completely toasted, make it from A to B and the pax would say "nice flight." Could probably get away with it dozens, if not hundreds of times before it burned em, and even longer before they bent metal. This job is not that hard.

Court TV.

This is the first (and last) time I've sat down and watched this PATHETIC show.
Pretty lame attempt at the hosts' hamming it up.

Really? the prosecutor is "generous in forgiving" ??? that's odd, that's not a quality usually found in prosecutors.

random drug tests, imagine that!

Someone emailed Court TV and suggested that pilots be required to reveal past DUI convictions and undergo random drug and alcohol testing.

On another note...

OK, so would you believe my WIFE was watching the coverage???

I walked into the room just to see the guy on the witness stand taking a drink from a cup and flash his HUGE watch! David Spring, a guy from Privid Eye Security, talking about video tapes that he saved, is wearing a watch that would certainly throw off the weight and balance calculations of the airplane in question. What was he thinkin'?!?!?

Now the talking heads are talking about how inappropriately the flight attendant was dressed. Hmmmm... Perhaps I'm watching the wrong show.

Yes we are....and have every right to be. We work way to hard to get to where we want to be.

Main Entry: mag·nan·i·mous
Pronunciation: mag-'na-n&-m&s
Function: adjective
Etymology: Latin magnanimus, from magnus great + animus spirit -- more at MUCH, ANIMATE
1 : showing or suggesting a lofty and courageous spirit <the irreproachable lives and magnanimous sufferings of their followers -- Joseph Addison>
2 : showing or suggesting nobility of feeling and generosity of mind <too sincere for dissimulation, too magnanimous for resentment -- Ellen Glasgow>
- mag·nan·i·mous·ly adverb
- mag·nan·i·mous·ness noun
I don't recall saying that she was magnanimous in her duties as a prosecutor...just that she is of generous proportions...and spirit.

I was thinking more along the lines of the latin roots of this word...Magnus + Animus. Large Animal :D

I *have* been to Russia, and I have worked with pilots over there, and the military pilots with whom I was working *did* take alcohol tests before each flight. DOn't kow if *all* pilots have to go through this, but at least some do.

If you missed it, I am sorry. That was a heck of a blouse she was wearing. Why can't we have flight attendants like that.

If I have to hear Nancy Grace say one more time: "The pilots got behind the wheel of the airplane and attempted to drive a airplane full of passengers...."

Then all she could do is blast that Flight Attendant for showing so much cleavage.... blah, blah, blah. Like a group full of jealous wives talking down about the cute girl at her husbands work. Get over it already.

Do you think they'll replay it tomorrow? Will I be able to see it in the hotel in Winnipeg?

Rotflmfao! That is exactly what you should be doing in a bar!!

I haven't seen the security camera images or anything, so I dont know what they did or didn't do - but both being married men, there was probably some explaining to do to the wives later!

Can you imagine coming home from that trip - you've already been arrested for trying to fly drunk, you're getting your certificates yanked, you're company is going to fire you, and to top it off you have to walk into your own house and know you have to face HER!! (Sam Kinison scream)

Reminds me of something that someone told me once: Never do or say anything that you wouldn't want your mom to see or hear at your trial later. :D
