I covered this in another thread, but the airport neighbor phenomenom is another "NIMBY" example. Where I live, people are angry that trash from New York is being carted here for burial. It has to go somewhere, right? Just "Not In My Backyard".
Around airports, people want all of the benefits of good air service, but none of the price that comes along with the airport, like acres of parking lots or aircraft sounds.
Yes, common sense is indeed lacking. I and my neighbors get to put our own tracsh in the landfill here, for free, and they are still unhappy.
