I heard a crazy rumor (hence the reason I am posting it on this board) that Comair is exploring the super-popular option of forming a separate company with a separate operating certificate, etc. to POSSIBLY fly E190s for Delta - basically skirt the scope clause... Would that be even remotely possible? I must emphasize that this is only a rumor and could be completely off base - but I heard it directly from a Comair pilot who seemed pretty serious (he was not joking)...

Could it happen? Seems like the trend nowadays....

Probably just some wishful thinking. I think that CMR pilot should be more concerned with trying to secure some of that 70 seat flying that's up for grabs.

I'm no pro on the Delta pilots' contract, but I don't think that would skirt scope. Their scope limits the aircraft that WOs can own, but also limits the seats that contractors can fly on behalf of DAL. They'd be jumping out of the frying pan into the fire...or vice versa.

Who told you this? Probably the same guy that used to tell people there were 90 seaters in Montreal painted in Comair colors just waiting to be delivered.

More likely the other way around. If you look at Mid Atlantic and the other jets for jobs carriers, this would be a move to undermine the Comair pilots' seniority list, not the other way around.

I've never, not once, heard a credible rumor that the "E" jets were going to be operated by a DCI carrier, and if operated by a DCI carrier, my bet would be CHQ with some sort of a super jets for jobs protocol.

I haven't heard about the 190's. I was told we were getting A380's. You know, for ATL-MCN, ATL-CSG, and ATL AGS. I swear, the chief pilot told me.

Scope on the 70 seater was a tough negotiating point at Delta. The amount of ASMs flown by codeshare partners is a significant issue at Delta. The mainline pilots are very sensitive to scope issues and tieing it to mainline growth. So there is NO WAY Delta pilots would go for that. Nor should they - cut a fair deal to fly the 190s and watch the mainline grow by about 100 aircraft.

I heard a rumor that we were going to be the launch customer for the 7e7. Seriously, quit talking to jr. fo's. They are full of "good" info.

The amount of ASMs flown by codeshare partners

When did the connection carriers become codeshare partners?

Last time I checked, Continental, Alaska, Air France, and others were code share partners. Don't they fly large aircraft?

cpherplt,
Connection carriers provide ASMs to Delta that could theoretically be flown by Delta aircraft. Carriers such as AF, CO, NW, KE have passengers on board which were ticketed by Delta. ie: both represent Delta passengers not flying on Delta metal. The Delta contract with it's pilots have separate sets of stipulations which control and tie the amount of (70+) seat flying that can be done by connection partners as well as the amount of DL passengers that may fly on other carriers such as AF.

Maybe I wasn't terribly clear on that point but both represent separate ways of carrying Delta passengers on airlines other than Delta. As such Delta pilots can and will have some amount of say in how much of this flying takes place.

My feeling is just that Delta pilots would go ballistic if DL mgmt tried to back door 90 seaters into the Delta network. It would never fly.
