According to the ATC Archive from an hour ago (0320z), Colgan 3407 is down NE of KBUF in Clarence Center. At 0324z in the archive, the controller makes blanket announcement that a "Dash 8 is down short of the airport in the vicinity of the outer marker" and asks all for icing pireps.

Local Buffalo news station has it listed as a U.S. Airways codeshare...but Colgan 3407 is EWR-BUF Q400.

This doesn't look good...here's to hoping for the best.

no there were people on it. some taken to hospital local news sais

Crap is right. Must have been something pretty catastrophic... They were only 5 miles from the airport and at least from the ATC tapes, everything seemed normal.

Thoughts and prayers for everyone involved.

Have some respect. This is not the time to bash the media, or anyone else. Many lives will be disrupted because of this.

CNN keeps saying its a 50 pax Regional Jet?

Whatever it is this is sad, very sad.

CNN says FAA confirms that 48 SOB. People who were not onboard the aircraft were taken to local hospitals.

Outside of Miles O'Brien, the news media always screw up the details on aviation related news. That said...what the hell does it matter right now?* The details will be corrected eventually.

Members of our "extended family", so to speak, just lost their lives tonight not two and a half hours ago...would it be so hard for the membership of FI to stop the cynical bashing for a few minutes and focus our thoughts on them and their loved ones?
