Twice is a coincidence, three times is a trend...

We just had our third CRJ2 land with no/reduced flaps in about 14 hours. S'up??
Last leg home and in a hurry to get back for the festivities...needed faster approach.

Well, the first two we rolled the equipment, (no flaps), the last went around and asked for a very long downwind to "check things out". Then came on in with "reduced flaps", but when I asked their target speed for my sequence, they said 170 ish, and insisted they didn't need the trucks. I probably see this once every few months, but three in less than a day was pretty strange.

Just for curiosity's sake, what speed are the tires good for, and how much runway do y'all need to feel comfortable with a 170 kt approach? We, of course had 12,000' to offer...

Tires are good to 182kts. As far as length, we'll take all we can get, but 5000-6000 would do in a pinch.

We practice these in the sim every 6 months and they are really not a big deal on 12k of runway. Throw in some wx and short runway, better roll the trucks! I have no idea why 3 in a day though? they are not a common malfunction.
