I am already at one of the above mentioned airlines however I'm trying to help a friend who has an offer from both decide what is best for him......what would YOU do? No flames please....thoughts from both sides.....
Thanks!

I say he should take whichever one offers a job first. I know that sounds generic but each company has good points and both have their bad points. There really isnt any regional that is truly that much betterthan another. I work for one of the companies you mentioned and I think the job and company are great. I also think the other company has some great points and not some good points. Just don't get caught up in the " our d!cks bigger than yours is sh!t.

Bull, they are not about to be one. You guys are so full of it and bought in totally to your company's scare tacticts. Your just upset because youe about to sign a contract equal to ours in pay. I looked at the difference in my pay rate and theres only a difference in 3rd year capt. (me) of about $1.50. And then I realized, Oh wait THEY don't have any 3rd year capts. In that case I'm making lots more.

Until the merger, then you will be making less ;)

It was a JOKE you fukking bitter DUMBASS

You people need to lighten up...or drink...or something

Speaking of jokes:

Bill, Hillary and Kerry are flying on Kerry's wife's private jet. Bill looks

at Hillary, chuckles and says, "You know, I could throw a $100.00 bill

out the window right now and make somebody very happy." Hillary shrugs

her shoulders and says, "Well, I could throw ten $10.00 bills out the

window and make 10 people very happy." Kerry says, "Of course then, I could

throw one-hundred $1.00 bills out the window and make a hundred people very

happy."

The pilot rolls her eyes, looks at all of them and says to her

co-pilot, "Such Big shots back there..... I could throw all of them out the

window and make millions happy.

I'd say COEX has a better route structure but CHQ has better aircraft (E170s coming up) and is more diversified with feed for UAL, Delta and USAirways vs. just Continental. In this day and age, it's a crap shoot. Either one would be good - although take CHQ if you can somehow secure an FO seat on the E170 - a great airplane!!!!!!!

Yeah, but aren't the Airlines you mentioned all either in, or in danger of Chapter 11? What if USAir fails? I don't think CAL will fail in the near future. Anyway I don't have a crystal ball, good luck, because you're right it's a crap shoot.

Isn't it nice to have options to begin with? Tell your buddy he's in a pretty good position. Obviously he'll factor in QOL for himself and will be considering the domiciles that each company offers. CHQ has a lot of them and which one he chooses will dictate which uniform he wears. Nothing against CHQ but given the choice I would go to COEX, being a wholly owned seems more stable to me (of course that depends on who owns you) and the flow through would be nice if Cont. ever goes into hiring mode again.

CHQ pilots all have 1 uniform, and COEX is NOT a WO.

Hard choice, he would need 2500 pilots to be hired behind him to upgrade at COEX, and only 1200 at CHQ.

Coex/chq

Thanks for the correction Habib. The fact remains that at CHQ you could be flying for any one of 4 carriers, some see that as good some don't. Upgrade time might be important but at least for me, I'd be looking for someplace that I could stay for an extended period.

ExpressJet seems like a great company...aside from their contract, which is being worked on by their union. The growth looks strong for the coming year, and COA seems to be holding their own (unlike most of the companies CHQ is flying for).

Coex is not a wholly owned.
The flow through is all but dead. Those with letters are going to go, but the future of the flow through is dead unless CAL wants one with us on their new contract. But yes...Beaucoup growth for the next year is anticipated with CAL recalls, and the 118 plus all the guys with letters...But as we all know well things do change and sometimes for the worse....cough 9/11.

Anybody know exactly or approximately how many XJT guys have letters after the 118? You know the preferential guys...

I heard there are approximately 180 pilots with the "yes" letter. Also, you wouldn't have to have 2500 pilots hired after you to upgrade. There will be signifacant attrition over the next 1.5 years. We have an additional 30 aircraft deliveries. And I don't think there's any doubt in any of our minds that something else is not far over the horizon..

I just came from CHQ and I tell you what. We used to run into a whole lot of disgruntled CoEx guys. After hearing their stories I could understand. One of my last trips had me in HOU and in the same hotel as all the CoEx new guys. The funny thing was that they all looked the same. Early twenties, perfectly parted hair and all kinds of stories about “how coming from instructing to this job was going to be great.”

At least at Chautauqua you will have a varied amount of backgrounds and everyone is in good spirits with the growth, upgrades, multi code shares, multi bases, and no contract crap for at least a couple of more years.

Why would anyone want to go work for a company that has such a reputation of trying to hire robots only instead of going to a company where you can be yourself and upgrade a heck of a lot sooner?

If upgrade isn’t important than why do you want to go work for the regionals in the first place?....to make a living?

If you are a low time guy/gal and are looking for anything…….than sure. But if you are looking for time, than go check out a company like Ameriflight. They are hiring and you can move into turbine equipment quick. After that you have a lot more options.

Anyway, Chautauqua is a good place filled with good pilots that makes up a company that honestly treated me very well while I was there.

No offence to Coex pilots. I shared a lot of beer with many crews up in Burlington,VT but my advice would have to be CHQ without looking back.
