I think everyone can reach back into their files and remember a guy like this. Mine didn’t scratch his balls, but he sure did have a gas problem. And not the funny kind of gas, I mean this guy really had a problem!
 
The checklist has the solution for "Strange odor in cockpit"
1. O2 Masks -- ON . . .or tell the guy the law is overflowing, why don't you/he go back and check (hint hint) ...

For the current guy, just call on freq and say your Captain just jumped out. Oh sure it will look like he put up a fight, but that can be explained by impact, or maybe he hit a barbed wire fence or a bird on the way down. You can explain your bruises and scratches by saying you tried to give your cat, Bruiser, a pill the previous night. The investigators, if they've ever owned a cat, won't ask why the cat has disappeared. (No self respecting cat from h*ll ever takes a pill, nor returns to someone that wants to give it one) The scratches, tears, and broken plastic inside the cockpit can be blamed on turbulence - make sure you turn the autopilot off before the incident so the ATC flight path will jive. Finally, be sure to scream "[Captain's name] what are you doing?! Close that door! No!!!!" several times, at least loud enough to cover his screams, for the CVR." It will help if that takes place after a discussion about the foul odor coming from the lav and he decides to go take a look.

For those not smart enough to know satire, don't try this at home.

Unfortunately, MEL's still allow A/P's to be deferred in most aircraft in 2004....and some jets(not many though) are just as easy to hand fly at 350 as they are at 240. I hate flying without an A/P...but sometimes we have to do it.
 
I thought that's what the co-pilot is for ;)
 
Well, after the FO makes one mistake, I usually beat him senseless with a bottle of wine(that I must first empty), so he's not able to fly. Hmmm....this makes me wonder...does the airplane really fly well up there without an AP, or does it just seem that way because of the wine? Bah, who cares?! :D
 
You get paid to fly pax from point a to point b safely and not to ding a piece of metal up in the process, etc. You are NOT being paid to become friends, pals, etc. You don't like the guy? Quit, resign, move on, etc. It is not up to you or anyone else to attempt to change a person unless safety is being compromised.

My advice: Have fun with it.

Everytime he scratches his nuts you do the same.

If he kills two lions, you kill three. See how far he'll go to keep topping you. This alone should be a riot.

You get the idea. Just be equally as annoying with a light and humorous touch. Life's too short to let this guy get to you.
 
Its part of the job

Unfortunately, you will have to deal with people like "dh" for the rest of your career. Perhaps not to the same degree as this clown but they are out there. On the other hand, he is doing you a favor right now. Learning how to deal with these types will prepare you for the subsequent weenies you will inevitably be paired with in the future. Learning how to "handle" people is just part of the job.

The best advice I can give you is to be as professional as you can possibly be at all times while on the job. Don't socialize with this person or even talk to him unless it has to do with the job. This removes the opportunity for him to say "black" when you say "white." If he asks why you don't talk to him anymore, tell him the truth. I'd say something like, "its nothing pesonal but you have an adversarial, abrasive personality and I find it unpleasant working with you." He will surely jump on the defensive but its very difficult to defend against the truth. Keep emotion out of the equation and again, be professional.
