ANDYMSN

Just in the nick of time.

Just when I was beginning to think I had lost my mind.

Andymsn saves the day.

In my mind it's perfectly clear to me that Bush has circumvented the Constitution (is acting unconstitutionally) and that Congress has abdicated their entire obligation with respect to this War.

And it is a War with a captial dubya.

This administration is so frickin' brazen they don't even try to hide behind tired rhetoric such as "Police Action" or "Military Intervention".

Nah. No need to even invoke the War Powers Act.

This is just War, Mano a Mano, and let's not make it messy by involving the Congress. They're much too busy to really know what's right and, besides that, *WE* have all the information and we can't share it on the basis of national security.

But you guys know the drill by now.

I'd like to see Bush impeached and his entire cabinet tried for abuse of office.

Good day.

There are generally three types of people who disagree with the agressive stance the US has taken against militent, imperialistic Islam:

1. Those who hate Bush and conservatives - yes, blind, emotional, irrational hate.

2. Those who believe in the proven lost cause of Communism and want it installed in the West/US.

3. the naive.

It's a new world folks... anyone can get ahold of a half dozen or so ounces of cesium chloride and a couple of pounds of black power and render a large portion of Washington DC uninhabitable. It's here folks. And this isn't even considering the hysteria and impact to the economy of uncorking a bio weapon somewhere. You airline folks feeling any pain from a couple dozen SARS deaths in the far east?!

It's time to get real and deal with the people who want to kill us.

andymsn - I'm with you on the US Constitution. But just how long has it been since the fed govt abided by that document? Let's look at the Constitutionality of the Labor Dept, Education Dept, Dept of Interior, EPA, HUD, FAA, etc, etc. if we're going to question "W's" authority to wage war.

surplus1 - Just when has "W" invoked God in any of his doctrines? Obviously he has faith, but your equating him with fanatical Islamics such as OBL, Ayatola Khomenni, et. al. is way, way off. You just make this stuff up as you go?!

mar/350 - you folks fly gas-guzzling aircraft for dollars? Bourgeoit guys like you shouldn't be doing that... how about painting, farming or maybe blacksmithing. You wouldn't be working for "the man" either, mar! Ha!

When are people like you going to get it right and admit that what President Bush is doing is the right thing? Time and time again President Bush has been proven right. He has yet to truely lead us astray. Democrats fussed over the tax cut, yet the economy came back and continues to climb

KSU Aviator,

Are you kidding? Try telling everyone this board that the economy is coming back. Industrial production numbers came in today and are down for March -0.5%. Consensus on the leading economic indicators is for slightly negative growth. In other words, still contraction in the economy. Obviously you will think what you will but Bush hasn't done jack with the economy. Sounds like you're living in a vacuum because most people are having extreme difficulty finding jobs and nobody is getting promoted or receiving large raises/bonuses, except the absolute highest level executives (but that's a corporate governance problem and a topic for another time). My company will be laying off/separating 1,800 employees by June 30th and we are making $$$.

I think we're still in for another few months of rocky times and possibly more. Bush needs some positive vital signs by next year or he is D-U-N.... Done!! It has nothing to do with whether I like or dislike the guy. The economy will be the number one reason he either gets re-elected or does not get re-elected.

The economy has already come back. Sure.

Mr. I.

Have you read my posts?

Flywithastick--If you've followed my posts in the past (and I think you have) then you'll acknowledge my protest of the war is simply on the grounds of working through the democratic process.

I never mention oil.

I never mention hidden weapons.

I never mention brutality.

My problem is that I read a lot about how the US holds itself out to the rest of the free world as its "leader".

I ask: How can we lead the free world when we systematically bypass our own checks and balances?

I think we have, far and above, the very best system of government in the entire world but not even our (chosen?) leaders trust it enough to let it work.

I never said nothing should be done about Hussein.

I've been saying all along that if we are to maintain a position of credibility and respect in the global community then we absolutely must conduct ourselves above reproach.

Sadly, ever since Bush took office, we have seen a steady erosion of very basic principles that made America great:

No unlawful search and seizure;
Due process;
Speedy trail;
De-centralization of executive power;
Freedom of speech...

...etc...

Now please don't explain to me--AGAIN--why it's so important to maintain "Homeland Security". I undertand it all very well.

Before I close I'd like to respond to your three points:

1) Hate *is* an emotion. At this point I regret taking the bait earlier in the thread, but I cannot deny it. I really resent Bush and his cronies. What can I say except that I'm pretty famous for giving people the benefit of the doubt--and I'm continually disappointed by Bush and company.

2) I don't understand how my insistence that we abide by the US Constitution is an endorsement of implementing Communism here in the States. Sounds like paranoid trash to me.

3) Naive? Idealistic maybe. Perhaps I should apologize for embracing higher principles than Let's Get the Bast*rds Before They Get Us.

Peace brother.

I wouldn't appologize, but I do think many may tend to over think the situation between the West and militant Islam. They are convinced we and our way of life is evil and we must die. Sometimes simple is the best course of action.

Peace brother. [/B]
and also with you!

BTW, I'm a believer in directly following the US Constitution. I don't buy any of this "living document" cr@p. I'd sure be happy if all the fed govt abided by it with all they did. Including searches & seizures, surveillance, privacy, bloated federal bureacracy and true protection of our borders.

gotta go flying... later.

I think it's funny as hell how a bunch of pilots start yapping about how the current system is broke under Bush, how did you all feel when Clinton was in office breaking the law and lying to the public to our faces. You Bush haters try everything you can to trash his administration. Bush has done everything he said he was going to do. He has taken the war to people who harbour terrorists and train them and also has defeated an evil regime that has no respect for the lives of it's own people, and you still think Bush is wrong. He said he would do it and he has. He has been very forthright and candid with this country, not to mention he has brought his faith to the forefront. I am not brainwashed by the administration or some right wing radio programs, I look at what is happening as a whole, and I like what Bush has brought back to the Oval Office.

" Sadly, ever since Bush took office, we have seen a steady erosion of very basic principles that made America great:"

Whatever. This doesn't even deserve a rebuttal after what was in office prior to Bush.

Ok, about the economy...think what you will, but I was laid off 30 days before I began working at a new company. Then I moved my wife here and she found a job in less than a week. Don't tell me the economy is bad. That is just an excuse for not going out and finding a job. Ya they aren't just handing out jobs any more, but if you work for it you'll find a job and quick.

As for the Constitutionality of the Iraq war, Congress did give President Bush the required "permission" for combat activities in Iraq. Even if they hadn't President Bush has a set amount of time to wage combat activities without congressional approval.

And, as for finding WMD, if the lab to make the weapon isn't enough for you, or the fact that they burried it to hide it from bombs then the report from CBS about several hundred sites with possible WMD stored in them should at least get you to thinking maybe its true. But I doubt it will. You'll do anything to deny the truth. It baffels me how people can be so ignorant as to not see just how dangerous this region is.

This is WWIII. There is no two ways about it. The only difference is we are fighting a group of people that have no soveriegn country they call home. Only sympathetic countries that support their efforts. Syria and Iran now realize how serious we are. They are coming around and they now know they can't screw with us. They will cooperate or they will be treated accordingly.

While we're at it...

Swass--you dope. I hate Clinton too. At least he could speak in a complete sentence.

KSU--"Sovereignty" = Rightful status, independence, or prerogative.

Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan and Syria are, in fact, sovereign.

This ain't WWIII.

This is the US against the world.

C'mon. Who's next? I'll take ya'll on by myself.

This is getting more hilarious by the post.. Swass, KSU, flywithastick please continue to give the majority of us laughs...:D

Don't tell me the economy is bad.

NO, it is great.... Unreal in fact- I couldn't imagine it being any better. (no sarcasm intended)- Thank YOU "Dumbya"..:D
For kicks, go back and re-read your posts, you may even laugh yourself...

You'll do anything to deny the truth. It baffels me how people can be so ignorant as to not see just how dangerous this region is

Wake up- I would highly suggest changing the coffee or kool aid that you are currently drinking.:D Seriously though, do you always buy into false propaganda and believe things without factual evidence.?- Your response is a complete joke, read what you write- ! !

Syria and Iran now realize how serious we are. They are coming around and they now know they can't screw with us.

LOL- too funny... I can only imagine your reasoning behind this one.

Bush has done everything he said he was going to do.

The poor b@S$&*$ can't even speak properly- Listen to him, most are embarrassed to have him in office- 2004, just wait.. What has he done productive.?? Come on- wake up to reality...The guy is a complete moron....

mar/350 - you folks fly gas-guzzling aircraft for dollars? Bourgeoit guys like you shouldn't be doing that... how about painting, farming or maybe blacksmithing. You wouldn't be working for "the man" either, mar! Ha!

And you buy into false propaganda and speak complete nonsense with regards to politics... Your point.?? - You ever think about facing reality and trying to open your mind to what is happening present day.?? <didn't think so>

cheers

Here are the lyrics from a song put out in 1985 by Time Zone (a collaboration of John Lydon and Afrika Bambaataa). For those of you too young or old to have heard it, they occaisionally play this at the end of some Sopranos episodes.

The words are particularly chilling - especially given the new world order.

World Destruction

Speak about destruction. (x3)
This is a world destruction, your life ain't nothing.
The human race is becoming a disgrace.
Countries are fighting with chemical warfare.
Not giving a dam about the people who live.
Nostradamus predicts the coming of the Antichrist.
Hey, look out, the third world nations are on the rise.
The Democratic-Communist Relationship,
won't stand in the way of the Islamic force.
The CIA is looking for other detectives.
The KGB is smarter than you think.
Brainwash mentalities to control the system.
Using TV and movies - religions of course.
Yes, the world is headed for destruction.
Is it a nuclear war?
What are you asking for?
This is a world destruction. Your life ain't nothing.
The human race is becoming a disgrace.
The rich get richer.
The poor are getting poorer.
Fascist, chauvinistic government fools.
People, Moslems, Christians and Hindus.
Are in a time zone just searching for the truth.
Who are you to think you're a superior race?
Facing forth your everlasting doom.
We are Time Zone. We've come to drop a bomb on you.
World destruction, kaboom, kaboom, kaboom!
I'm going out of my mind that makes two of us-I'm going out of my mind
This is the world destruction, your life ain't nothing.
The human race is becoming a disgrace.
Nationalities are fighting with each other.
Why is this? Because the system tells you.
Putting people in faceless categories.
Knowledge isn't what it used to be.
Military tactics to control a nation.
Who wants to be a president or king? Me!
Mother Nature is gonna work against you.
Nothing in your power that you can do.
Yes, the world is headed for destruction.
You and I know it, the Bible tells you.
If we don't start to look for a better life,
the world will be destroyed in a time zone!
I'm in a time zone (x3) Speak about destruction (x1) I'm in a time zone (x3)
Speak about destruction (x1)

Ridding Iraq of Saddam was a good thing. Whether or not we were justified in doing it, I don't know. The proof will be in the pudding.

What I wonder is how those who are gung ho for the war in Iraq and possibly Syria would feel if it was them who had to risk their lives for it? Would they be willing to go to Iraq? Would they be willing to send their son or daughter to die for this cause? Or is it only ok as long as we pay someone else to do it? Most Americans, myself included, would have been willing to go into Afghanistan. How popular would this war be if we had a draft with no excusions? I wonder.

The poets always say it best

Jackson Browne
Lives in the Balance (1986)

I've been waiting for something to happen
For a week or a month or a year
With the blood in the ink of the headlines
And the sound of the crowd in my ear
You might ask what it takes to remember
When you know that you've seen it before
Where a government lies to a people
And a country is drifting towards war
And there's a shadow on the faces
Of the men who send the guns
To the wars that are fought in places
Where their business interests runs
On the radio talk show and the TV
You hear one thing again and again
How the USA stands for freedom
And we come to the aid of a friend
But who are the ones that we call our friends--
These governments killing their own?
Or the people who finally can't take anymore
And they pick up a gun or a brick or a stone
There are lives in the balance
There are people under fire
There are children at the cannons
And there is blood on the wire
There's a shadow on the faces
Of the men who fan the flames
Of the wars that are fought in places
Where we can't even say the names
They sell us our president the same way
They sell us our clothes and our cars
They sell us everything from youth to religion
The same time they sell us our wars
I want to know who the men in the shadows are
I want to hear somebody asking them why
They can be counted on to tell us who our
enemies are
But they're never the ones to fight or to die
And there are lives in the balance
There are people under fire
There are children at the cannons
And there is blood on the wire

Mar, Amen brother........

We like to wring our hands about how the Arabs hate the Westerners and they want to destroy our way of life It justifies the actions of the puppets(Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush, Clinton, Bush that the "men in the shadows" put in place to affect their own agendas.....It is about the purity of absolute power that knows no borders. If you dont think so than do the research....Start with a guy named Abe Lincoln and the economics of the "War of Northern Aggression".... It's really quite simple. In order to have absolute power you must have unlimited capital and that is where the good detective will pick up the trail. Back to the Arabs, they will never be able to affect our quality of life in the same manner that "we" have absolutely ruined theirs. They have spent the last 5 generations with a big fat western thumb squarely in their eye and they are sick and tired of it. We build military bases in their holy lands and prop up puppet regimes all around them so what should we expect at this point. It is time my friends like Hank Jr. says "for everyone to leave everyonelse alone" but it will never happen. And for all you weeping liberals and right wing freaks, it just does not matter who resides at 1600 pennsylvania for they are simple tools placed there for a specific purpose. The puppets nor their masters ever stand in the way of a bullet so I say this, once they put soldiers in harms way than it is right to support 100% those soldiers and demand that we wage war with ferocity so that it may end as soon as possible but in no way does this support the policies that put them in harms way nor the creators of those policies...............and only when it is over should we then demand to know what dire straits could possibly justify the clear abuse of power by those that hold it over those that gave it........... Do you get it now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good. my eyes were starting to blur from all the crap coming off your posts. At any rate a good debate is always fun, even if we will never agree. ;)

I'm so glad that everyone posting here is smarter than the people making the decisions. Gives me a warm fuzzy to be a part of it all.

Someone, I can't remember whom, once said "Religion is the opiate of the masses." GWB is a self-proclaimed evangelical Christian. I see that as little different from the fanatical Muslims. If the likes of Par Robertson and Jerry Farwell could ever gain political control of the government, I submit it would be little different from what the Ayotollah Komeni did in Iran. Each of these "groups" has apparently decided that his own version of religion is the one that should prevail and each is bent on the destruction of the other. The methodology that they choose may be different, but the objective is the same.

No, I don't invent this stuff or make it up as I go. I just research the bakgrounds and affiliations of the players and read as much as I can. My reading includes what they say about themselves, what they say about others and what others say about them and, most import of all, the record of what they actually do. Then I form my own opinions.

Yes, I watch FOX News for I need to know their "spin" just as much as I need to know the "spin" of the others. My "problem" is that I don't believe what they say.

GWB is "such and affable fellow, ever uttering anodyne platitudes, the only way to get any real sense of him is through his record." Well, forturnately for those who care, he does have a record -- one in business that predates his adventrues in politics as well as one in politics where he was govenor of Texas for two terms, and one of religious affiliations.

In business, Bush has a record. The record of the Texas Rangers baseball team and Bush's ability to parlay his small investment into a multi million dollar fortune. Bush was a small player, but as the son of a sitting president he could lend his name to a project run by the big players. The name lender got the taxpayers of the Great State to add a big chunk of value to his business, became govenor, and made a $15 million dollar profit, on a $600K investment. It makes Hillary Clinton's adventure in commodities futures look like peanuts.

With respect to religion, what GWB actually believes is anybody's guess but his affiliation with and use of the "Christian Right" is no secret. Ostensibly Bush was "brought to Jesus" by the venerable Billy Graham, whose views with respect to Islam surfaced after 9/11. They were so "insensitive" as to require a public "explanation" of what he supposedly meant. The subsequent "clarification" was little more than a political damage control operation. IMO, Mr. Graham meant exactly what he said.

Another prominent figure in the political life of the governor/president and the Republican Party in Texas is Pat Robertson. Some say the whole party was "born again" in FTW back in '98. As former Senator Margaret C. Smith of Maine once said, "The Republican Party has been taken over by the Four Horsemen of Calumny: fear, ignorance, bigotry and smear." IMO she wasn't wrong.

Another well know affiliate of GWB (in Texas) is Fort Worth televangelist James Robison. You can do your own investigation of that nut. I don't know if Farwell also fits into the picture somewhere, but as a leader of the Christian Right, we do know what he thinks about Islam and a whole lot of other things. We also know that he, Robertson and a whole lot of their kind would like nothing better than to gain political control of this country.

Bush's appearances at that famous Southern bastion of bigotry, B. Y., during the campaign was an accident? Did you know that our President professes to belive that Jews can't go to Heaven and that only Christians are granted God's grace? Apparently Mr. Bush shares the views of the Reverend W. A. Criswell of the First Baptist Church of Dallas (who reportedly often speaks on "behalf of the Lord".) Don't know who Criswell is? Do the reasearch.l

I don't have any positive feelings about Islam myself. I think most of them are fanatics and dangerous. I just happen to think that the evangelical Christian Right is no less fanatic or dangerous. Both of these groups constantly invoke the rath of the Allmighty against each other and the rest of the "infidels", i.e., anyone that doesn't believe what they believe. In my opinion, having a president that is apparently a part of either one of them is not in the best interests of this Republic nor of mankind. I believe in secular States. Religion should have no part in government and government should have no part in religion.

While I have my own religious beliefs, they are separate from my politics and I hope that the same will remain true in my country, as intended by its Constitution.

Finally, under the leadership of governor GWB, Texas became the national laboratory for bad government. I sincerely hope that doesn't carry over to these United States. Up to now, I see nothing that would indicate that it hasn't. I won't invoke the Lord to stop it, but neither will I regret the change to escape it in 2004.

I'm sorry I'll use smaller words for you because you obviously didn't understand. No nation attacked us, but there are nations that supported those that did. i.e. Iraq.

How arrogant are you? You come and post generalities and falacies in an attempt to sound enlightened or some how insightful? You stated no facts, just your opinion. Based on what? What CNN told you? I think we can clearly rule out CNN as a reliable news source now. Get a clue.

please continue to give the majority of us laughs...

71% support President Bush's job as a whole. So I guess in your little world 29% makes up the majority?

BTW when I said Syria and Iran are coming around I was refering to Iran adding a vote on whether or not to reinstate diplomatic relations with the US. That happened just this week. And Syria has hinted they will aid the US in finding any fugitives that may have crossed into their country.

No offense intended BUT if you "attempt" to speak the big talk you should atleast have some factual evidence to back this up. Absolutely nothing you have posted in this thread is backed up by any factual evidence whatsoever, most if not all are your personal beliefs and opinions , nothing more and nothing less. Read exactly what you have written. How exactly DID Iraq support 9-11.?? What evidence do you have to back these comments up.?? Please explain how Iraq posed such a threat to US interests.?? I am sure you will dodge these questions but I will ask once again.......

How arrogant are you?

I am nothing more than a "taxi driver" in the sky that knows his stuff well.:D ... (my weak attempt at sarcasm for the night)

You come and post generalities and falacies in an attempt to sound enlightened or some how insightful?

I think you may have twisted that around just a tad, not overly sure though. I attribute my writings to the fact that I look at what is as clear as day (evidence or there lack of) and I try not to buy into the false propaganda that the "w" administration is trying to sell to many.. I prefer not to drink that same kool aid as others.

You stated no facts, just your opinion. Based on what? What CNN told you? I think we can clearly rule out CNN as a reliable news source now. Get a clue

And what have you proven in your posts.?? Thought so...... I guess we will have to agree to disagree.

71% support President Bush's job as a whole. So I guess in your little world 29% makes up the majority?

I am sure you are well aware of how these "polls" are set up... How many people are included in this poll.?? Are the majority of Americans included in the poll.? I think not.....

Nothing personally, I enjoy a good debate however I would appreciate examples of HOW "I" am so far off and you are so "correct". Is this too much to ask for.?

So I wonder which causes more sexual deviancy...

(1) ...having sex.

(2) ...being told from day one that sex is bad, and normal human desire must be repressed.

Like I told my wife: when you discover a Playboy in your son's room, doing nothing at all generates a lot less trauma than confronting him with it!

But this is not what the thread is about...sorry. :)

How exactly DID Iraq support 9-11.??

This is how...

http://www.terrorismanswers.com/sponsors/iraq.html#Q2

Some Iraqi militants trained in Taliban-run Afghanistan helped Ansar al-Islam, an Islamist militia based in a lawless part of northeast Iraq. The camps of Ansar fighters, who clashed repeatedly with anti-Saddam Kurds, were bombed in the early days of Operation Iraqi Freedom. In February 2003, Secretary of State Colin Powell told the U.N. Security Council that Iraq was harboring a terrorist cell led by Abu Musab Zarqawi, a suspected al-Qaeda affiliate and chemical and biological weapons specialist. Powell said al-Zarqawi had both planned the October 2002 assassination of a U.S. diplomat in Jordan and set up a camp in Ansar al-Islam’s territory to train terrorists in the use of chemical weapons. Powell added that senior Iraqi and al-Qaeda leaders had met at least eight times since the early 1990s.

What evidence do you have to back these comments up.??

I posted in my last post links to Syria's comments and the poll numbers, but I'll do it again...

http://www.gallup.com/poll/releases/pr030403.asp

What proof do you have that President Bush is putting forth false propaganda? More likely you refuse to believe President Bush is right because that would mean that President Clinton was wrong to ignore these issues.
