Are they a waste of time and money, or are they a necessary part of training to ensure safe operations?

Safe operation? What the fukc are you going to hit?

There a waste of time and money and frankly they should look for a green alternative ie straight into the maneuver.

dunno...never done em in the box, but i have only been about two dozen times to any one of four sim places; delaware, wichita, long beach and dallas ;)

You've got to be kidding. What operator requires this? Do they do mag checks, too?

Embry Riddle!!! Ha just kid

I've done some "steep turns" to start off loft/PC events to get the "sim feel" before having to do maneuvers and stuff, both nothing ever labeled as "clearing turns".

Maybe the instructor wanted to prove you were the dumbest student he ever had.

I busted my last AQP ride because I was trying to save time and did my clearing turns during the RNAV departure. Beware!!! Don't make the same mistake I did!!!

That's bs man, aren't airports where planes converge and possibly collide? If anywhere that a where clearing turns should be done, especially on those rnav deps you mentioned. Well played, it's the IP who should've been busted!
