CitationAir Pilots Gear Up for Union Vote

http://www.ainonline.com/news/single-news-page/The International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT) and the Local 1108 Executive Board received a letter yesterday from the National Mediation Board (NMB) authorizing a union vote for CitationAir pilots. Voting instructions will be mailed to CitationAir pilots soon, with voting to take place from June 14 to July 6. A simple majority (50 percent plus one vote) is needed for the union to be voted in. Results are expected on July 6, according to IBT 1108 president Mat Slinghof. “The NMB informed us last week that there will be an election,” a CitationAir spokeswoman told AIN. “We encourage all of our pilots to get out and vote. CitationAir pilots are best in class and have an extremely competitive compensation package…and we are looking forward to the upcoming election, when our pilots will have an opportunity to exercise their free choice in a secret-ballot election.” Local 1108 was formed by activist NetJets pilots in 2005 with the intent of unionizing all pilots at the fractional providers, and that remains a goal, Slinghof told AIN. NetJets pilots were represented by IBT 1108 from the Local’s inception until May 2008, when they left to form an in-house union. Flight Options pilots have been represented by 1108 since voting in a union in March 2006. Union-organizing “card drives” are active at Flexjet and Avantair, according to Slinghof.
